Was there anything more to the "I know you" stranger that I missed past him disappearing? Seems like maybe they were introducing this character so that in the next game he could play into the story a bit more.
When I was going through those missions I was actually under the impression that the whole landscape was going to be "purgatory", and John Marston had really died in the beginning.
But I watch too many fuckin' movies, I guess.
How many bears did you hunt by yourself when you were 15? That's not too bitch, IMO.
SPOILERS for those who have NOT finished the game or completed the "I KNOW YOU" mission.
When you meet him he says something to the effect of "This looks like a good spot". Well, that spot is where John will actually be
buried. I don't know if the man is another side of John, Satan, a manifestation of God or Death. Remember, he says six key things that are really tripped out if you peep it. But it is what John does that is actually even crazier.
1. "Ain't this a beautiful spot" (spot where John, his wife and uncle will be buried)
2. "I'm an accountant" (coming to balance the scale/books and collect because their time is coming to an end. Think about "Death"/"Grim Reapercoming to collect souls)
3. When asked about his name he says, "I can't remember" (which to me implies he's been around for so long and "accounting" for so long he has many names and is known to different people. Think how "Death" has many names that span different religions and cultures.)
4. "I know you from all over" (implies he is always with John, always seen John, or always came to collect after John put in work.)
5. "You will be responsible" (meaning his actions have caught up to him or either his actions at the conclusion of the encounter will make him responsible.)
6. When John says "Damn you" he says, "Yes many have." (Think about "GOD DAMN!" How people get mad at God when their loved ones die, how people damn the devil and blame him, etc. Or it could be that he is Johns alter ego or something and many people have damned John because he smoked their loved ones.)
7. John shoots three times and the gun jams on the fourth shot. John, Abigal and Uncle died but Jack survives.
Whatever the case may be, "THE STRANGE MAN" is what I want to be when I grow up.
