I haven't used it myself but I've heard good things about Reason. Probably worth looking into if not as a replacement or addition but atleast just to be aware of the option.

There's no MIDI out, but you can Rewire it with Cubase and use your XP-80 alongside with it. Along with whatever VST instruments/fx and other modules you may have.

I like the Dr Rex in Reason and the easy automation of any knob within the racks of the program.

Its synths don't really measure up to what's in the VSTi realm though... The soundmodule is passible and I've heard some great things about the drummachine module, but to me, it never integrated into my Cubase setup as conviently as I would like.

Wow, someone actually is using those... Goodness! The problem with Reason's sampler (and most I've seen) is that it doesn't have a legato mode, which is essential for a lot of synth bass samples. Each note is triggered from the begining of the envelopes and waveform when notes overlap in time, instead of maintaining the envelope and sample locations from the previous note in the case of overlaps.

Reason is great the only things I don't like about it is its more geared towards Techno and dance music so it can be hard to find sounds sometimes

and no MIDI out

its great for people just starting out and you can do so much with it

yeaa I use Reason to spice up my track
shit if the mixaken is down with reason that tells cats that the shit ain't no toy, I say that cuz alot of soft synths get a bad wrap. I make good stuff with it and as i expand my setup i think it will always be a big part of my lab.

yea... I agree with ^^^

the synths aint all that... but if you have any knowledge of synth programing you can make em sound really decent. But man I think alot of cats is sleeping on reason.. 2.5 is off the hook.. but it takes alittle more work to get it to sound tight... I use the NN-XT alot with high quality samples... shit is dope mayne!!!
