^^half of your list u put up there are either GANGSTA RAPPERS and REAL HIP HOP LYRICIST. For me I consider gangsta rap and hip hop two different genres. thats just me!

How do separate "GANGSTA RAPPERS" from "REAL HIP HOP LYRICIST" when they ALL rap about the same things??? Listen to the lyrics again my friend and come back wit ya answer.

Real hip hop is getting a message across without stating the obvious... talking a jazz beat and spitting on it so tight that you damn near can't hear the music, but the song is still tight...

These days rap music is driven by the beat or some type of chant bullsh*t... That sh*t is cool for the club or a party, but will become old in a day or two...

When you listen to real hip hop, the muthafucka can say some sh*t clear as day, but you still be figuring out what the nigga really said weeks later...

ok for example. listen to a C-BO cd and then after that listen to a Living Legends cd. If you you say that those to artists are the same lyrically you are a dumb fuck.

lets break this down, its the easiest way for me to explain this

what is real? real is some shit you can relate to, its real to you, shit youve never seen will never be real to you. i have never seen someone shot, ive never been shot, ive never shot anybody, ive never pimped a bitch, ive never sold crack, blah blah blah, this shit isnt real in my life.

hip hop, we all know what that is

so in my opinion real hip hop to me is that shit that talks about real life issues that ive seen and been around. homies and family doin time, friends getting killed, struggles we all face, blah blah blah

if you do sell drugs, you do kill people, than your gonna be opposite from mme, you see what im sayin, so whoever said its in the eye of the beholder was correct. but from what it seems, most people follow what i consider real hip hop, not saying its wrong to not agree with me, but most do, if you dont, thats cool too, we all love hip hop in whichever form we listen to it in so well all still have that middle ground

The only time I've heard someone use the term "real hip hop" 99.9% of the time it was a person from NY saying it.
or by someone who wants to be from New York... I never say hip hop, because it aint that to me...It's rap plain and simple... I like tight ass "rappers" who have tight ass beats and spit tight ass "raps" I don't listen to hip hop or hip hoppers

i think the difference is in the artists intention. you can listen to music and feel when an artists is, in this case rapping, about something he believes in and feels strongly about and wrote as a form of therapy or mind release...like what a true poet does...on the flipside you can also tell when a rapper just makes music to get some money and pussy. they follow a formula and stay within the boundaries of what is trendy at the time...theres no passion in the music...they dont go into the studio with the mindset of releasing their inner feelings, but rather with the mindset of what will sound tight and sell. as far as music in general goes thats how i decifer what type of music i admire and take serious and what type of music i listen to the same way i would listen to the spongebob squarepants song
