To me when people say "Real Hip Hop" I feel that they are talking about rap music that has real good lyrical content..more of the conscious style of rap....Wu Tang,Common,The Roots,Blacalicious...that style of rap is considered to some as the "real".....To me the delivery is bland and does not contain as much personality as some of the others......Nas has great lyrics but a real bland delivery......The whole package of an mc is delivery, lyrics, content and style.....Anyways.....I went off topic......east coast rap is considered real hip hop at times...

"real hiphop" is in the eye of the beholder.... first of all, to even use that statement a person has to appreciate music and have at least a minimal amount of hip hop history.... then secondly, a person has to have an opinion of hip hop.... cause you go to the city and ask anybody what real hip hop is, i guarantee that the person would give a completely different answer that a person from atl or nyc or la.... hence real hip hop is in the eye of the beholder.... basically if you dont know, your shit out of luck buddy...

Hip Hop Music? Or Hip Hop as a whole?

Real Hip Hop Music? - It's when someone expresses themselves thru music by rapping. Whether it be about bitches and hoes, battles and mic checks, or snapp yo fingaz and leanin back...I think that's all real hip hop cus it's real and it's right there. I'm not saying all of it is good tho, I'll leave the listener to choose whether it's whack or not.

What about the other percentage of people's opinion of real hip hop?

I think that's dudes point...you're gonna have a different response depending which region/forum you're asking.

Run DMC and the Sugarhill gang symbolizes real hip hop to me

I appreciate the feedback!!!

I'm glad some folks responded to the thread. I here people saying that bs all the time in the streets and on tv and radio but that saying only comes around when the eastcoast ain't shining musically record sales wise. Real hip hop don't have nothing to do with the content but it has to do with the cd as a whole (artist, delivery, beats, etc...)

C BO, YUK, GANGSTARR, KRS ONE, JADAKISS, SNOOP, LIL FLIP, ZRO, EMINEM, MC EIHT, SOULS OF MISCHIEF, UGK, EIGHTBALL & MJG, RAS KASS, CANIBUS, etc are ALL HIP HOP. They all talk about the same thing just with they lyrical touch on it. All of it's tight so folks need to quit trying to separate it by region.

BOTTOM LINE: If an artist or group has skills regardless of where they from then IT'S HIP HOP.

Real Hip Hop... let me take you back to the 1970's when The Sugarhill Gang was at their peak.

No one knows what real hip hop is... Every generation has a new upbringing to follow so obviously cats before them are gonna say something negative about the new

We all criticize like old people
