I agree. Something Serious was a great album. Big Mike always did what I'd called gangsta rap for grown-ups. He was your thinking-man's gangsta rapper, a real laid-back and intelligent artist... He could've blown up with the right production.
the right production!?! Big Mike always had FLAME PRODUCTION!! atelast on Somthin Serious, and Still Serious..production was TOP OF THE LINE..and he did blow up, both those albums went gold, and Till Death Do Us Part went Plat..

If you check these albums, you'll see that Mike Dean didn't produce more than a couple of tracks on each (maybe about 4 o5 on Still Serious). The majority of the songs were produced by other less-known producers.

Anyway, I agree he HAD good production (even though other Rap-A-Lot enjoyed better beats, in my opinion). He just was a bit too mature for many of todays gangsta rap listeners...

THEY SURE ARE ONE OF THE BEST LABELS, THEY PROMOTE THE HELL OUT OF THERE ARTISTS, THATS RIGHT ONLY IF YOU UGK WILL YOU GET A REAL PUSH THESE DAYS!!!
RAL never really promoted there artist too hard. J Prince said he never wanted to overexpose his artist so he wouldn't promote their shit hella hard like other labels do even though he could have.

RAL is one probably the best indy label ever, and you know why? Not only they put out the best music, but they treat their artists well!!!!. I don't remember many Rap A Lot artists leaving the label... Unlike every other label (Death Row, Cash Money, Suave, No Limit, you name it!!)

And by the way, with all the names you mentioned, don't forget about Tela!! To me, he was one of the best artists on the label, ever
Willie D,Bushwick Bill & Big Mike all left over financial disputes. Don't know who was right or wrong but it happened. And Tela was hella wack. I could name about 20 artist that were sighned to the label that were better then him.

Well some people consider puttin out the BEST music determines the best label, not whos got more ads in XXL. Album for album RAL catalogue shits on any other label. Noone can match their longevity and quality combined. The only one that could be argued for would be Def Jam.
