I don't give a shit if randy is 65 years old. James Toney has never fought an MMA fight before in his life and is a shot boxer. It's a total mismatch.
I would agree but JT wanted a top fight he originaly talked about Brock Lesnar. He has said on many different interviews he wants a big name not a newbie. JT is not serious about MMA he wants to try and defend boxing but just about no MMA fighters claim that they can beat a boxer in a boxing match.

I understand JT frustration with MMA being so popular and boxing not as of lateley but this is not the way to go about defending it IMO.

Also I cannot stand this Boxing vs MMA debate. They are 2 different sports, I won't compare rugby and American football so why would I compare MMA and boxing.

Nein! James Toney talked his way into a contract with UFC, the only reason he did so is because he's irrelevant in boxing because he's a shot fighter and cant get any more big pay days, if he could he wouldn't do MMA. It has little to do with defending boxing and everything to do with Toney getting paid, that's all this is about to him.

This really shouldn't be a boxing vs mma debate.

My only thing is that since Toney signed a multi-fight contract with UFC he should at least get some kind of "easy" fight or whatever, not some old school vet that knows all the tricks in the game. It would be like Couture going to boxing and fighting Bernard Hopkins in his first boxing match. It's just not right, despite how much James Toney talks shit that's just who he is to get attention. I mean yeah you can say that Toney wanted big names but still it makes little sense to me to put a guy who is 0-0-0 as an MMA fighter against a proven vet.

Oh I agree that logicaly it makes no sense but the UFC pay does not come close to boxing and I guess the question is would JT even take a lower level fight? Especialy if that might mean he would get paid even less?

I totally agree that I would not be happy with let's say even a top MMA guy going in and taking on a veteran boxer I would think the same as you but if the MMA guy insist on it then it would be his own fault when he gets schooled.

I don't know, I guess it depends on how his contract was worked out. If anyone knows specifics I would be curious to see how it's structured.

Right but in boxing it couldn't even happen since there are rankings one must go through to fight a top guy for it to be sanctioned properly. You can't be 0-0 and take on Manny Pacquiao for example.

Yeah I agree that there is not a good ranking system in MMA, it is still a fairly new sport and hopefully one day that will be fixed. I am not sure how the contracts work out for the UFC that stuff is usualy under lock and key. Either way JT shouldnt be in there with Randy but hey if he's willing to do it much respect but I don't see him winning or having much of a chance other than a punchers chance and with 4oz gloves that is actually very possible.

Props to Toney for being man enough to take a real ass whooping for his money and be willing to probably look like a fool doing it.

Shame on Dana White for this shit tho, after all the shit he talks about gimmick fighters being bad for the sport when its in other organizations

True, but Toney is no backyard brawler. I guess Dana based his decision on Toney's standing in the sport of boxing, as far as legacy and reputation goes. We all know Toney is far past his prime, and is fat and probably not in the best shape.

I dunno, I don't think its PPV worthy. Props to Toney for mouthpiecing his way into a UFC contract.

2-0-Sixx you're right about everything except Couture being one of the sports best. I don't even think he ranks in the top 30 (or even worse) to be honest. He WAS one of the best and is a legend in the sport (as some would argue Toney is for boxing) but it's not like he's actually fighting a TOP fighter. I'm not trying to say Couture doesn't have the advantage, but the guy is 47 years old! With that said, given the fact that this is a MMA fight, Toney should get worked.

yea though kimbo would try n take him down like he did mercer..he's not good enough to fight top notch boxers and isn't schooled anout to fight mid level mma fighters..but that would be a good matchup..toney HITS hard so he has a punchers chance against capt america..if liddell could knock em out imagine toney destroyin him..he should fight rampage..or any light heavy not named rashad..luiz cane types..thiago silva too..alexander houston woulda made a good fight for toney..dana jus wants to embarass him thats all..he knows hes gona get tooken down and bullied tire him out and submit em..

If he wanted to embarass James Toney I think they would have matched him up with someone different. Dana wants to draw as much attention to the fight as possible. Couture is one of the most popular fighters, is a good boxer (by MMA standards), and is is also an aged fighter. If Toney signed to a 1 fight deal he would probably get set up against a fighter would would snap his limbs off.

I like Couture in this one for obvious reasons but still Tony has the KO power and if Randy even thinks and try's to box with him, I feel Tony can/probably will get the KO. These gloves are tiny, if he can KO people with bigger gloves I can only imagine what he could do with MMA gloves.
