TITAN POST GAME QOUTES FROM NFL.COM
QB STEVE MCNAIR
(on mistakes/turnovers)
Anytime you’re playing in a game of this magnitude, turnovers and mistakes will kill you. Fortunately we still had a chance. We wanted to keep it close at halftime and we did. We came out and had a good drive in the third quarter but we came up short. I thought we took some time off the clock to give our defense some rest. When you’re coming from behind against a great team like the Raiders, you have to minimize your mistakes. We just didn’t take care of the ball early. We were fighting an uphill battle and we just didn’t climb hard enough. When we were behind we would score and they would score, and you just can’t trade touchdowns.
(on team’s attitude at halftime)
We still had a chance to come out after halftime and do some great things offensively, but we just didn’t do enough. You have to give the Raiders credit. They have a great team with great weapons and they use them to the fullest.
(on the overall season)
This year was a huge challenge for us. It tested our patience, our character, and our unity. We rebounded great after the 1-4 start. We came together and played well. This was a good year. Unfortunately we lost in the AFC Championship Game, but overall every individual in all three phases gave it everything they had. We just came up short, but this year was a good year for us. Hopefully we can keep these guys around, rebound, and we’ll be back next year.
RB ROBERT HOLCOMBE
(on the game)
They deserved to win. They answered the call and we didn’t. I give them all the credit in the world. We did some great things on offense and the defense did some great things, but the Raiders are a tough team.
LB KEITH BULLUCK
(on turnovers)
We had a good game plan. We knew they would come out hot. Against the Raiders, or any team in the AFC Championship Game, you can’t have turnovers. We had opportunities and I feel we played a good game, but it’s hard to win games when you turn the ball over.
(on Rich Gannon)
He’s the league MVP. He does what he’s supposed to do and makes the other team adjust. It’s hard to stop a team like the Oakland Raiders when you give them the ball inside your own 30-yard line three different times.
S LANCE SCHULTERS
(on Raiders offense)
It was what we expected from the Raiders. We wanted to stay within our game plan and play a tight man-to-man. We ran the same stuff throughout the game.
(on the mood at halftime)
We were very excited. We were playing the game we wanted to play and everybody was up in the locker room.
T BRAD HOPKINS
(on game)
They played us marvelously. They did whatever it took for them to move the ball down the field and score points.
TE FRANK WYCHECK
(on Steve McNair’s performance)
Steve is a warrior. He went out there and took one of the hardest hits I have ever seen him take on the first touchdown run. Once again he’s just giving up his body for the entire team.
(on Titans performance)
We battled. I thought offensively we played pretty decent, except for the end. We ran the ball pretty efficiently. We got down there a few times and got touchdowns, but it was tough at the end and we couldn’t close the gap fast enough.
(on the Raiders)
You just have to tip your hat to the Raiders. They’re a juggernaut on offense. I don’t think our defense has anything to hold their head about. They (Raiders) are just very powerful, very potent, and tough to contain.
