The Raiders signed Daunte Culpepper to a one-year contract Tuesday afternoon, giving the team an established quarterback at training camp.

The team will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Raiders' training camp headquarters in Napa with Al Davis expected to attend. The Raiders felt the need to make a move with Jamarcus Russel unsigned and this should end speculation about Culpepper going to the Falcons.

DAUNTE DEAL DONE

The Raiders have announced the acquisition of quarterback Daunte Culpepper. In an e-mail message regarding his arrival in Oakland, Culpepper had this to say:

"I am extremely excited to be able to play for the Oakland Raiders for the 2007 season. I want to thank Mr. Davis, coach Lane Kiffen [sic] and the Raiders front office for giving me this opportunity. When I became a Free Agent I created and ranked 8 criteria that I used to evaluate potential teams that were interested in my services. Based on my criteria, the Oakland Raiders are the best fit. The Raiders are giving me the opportunity to compete for the starting job while helping QB JaMarcus Russell, when he arrives, get ready to take over for the future. I also get an opportunity to show both the Raiders and the NFL community that I am healthy and back to form after battling injuries the last two seasons. Most importantly, I appreciated that there was mutual respect as we worked through the process of coming to contract terms. I look forward to working with my new teammates and being a part of the Raider Nation!!"

Hey, Daunte must really be excited. I mean, two exclamation points. Wow.

why in the fuck would Denver want him?

I dont like this for the raiders, they should stick with McCown. McCown's hands are actually bigger then a 7th grade girls. raiders offense better install a few new fumble drills for camp

THIS IS JUST DUMB. IF WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO GIVE RUSSELL THE CONTRACT HE WANTS THAN WHY TAKE AWAY EVEN MORE BY GIVVING A CONTRACT TO CULLPEPPER?

I THINK THE RAIDERS FRONT OFFICE FULL OF SHIT. IT TAKES 4 PEOPLE TO GET A RUSSELL DEAL DONE. WHAT TYPE OF SHIT IS THAT? I THINK WE HAVE THE MONEY I THINK WE DONT HAVE THE BRAINS TO PUT TOGETHER A PLAUSABLE CONTRACT FOR RUSSELL.

LOL...it's not that the Raiders ''dont'' have the money...you don't just say, 'here, since I have 30 million...take it. Want a bag with that?'

Smart pick up...it's not like Culpepper's due 10 million over 5 years. LOL

SOLID PICK UP. WE NOW HAVE VERY DECENT DEPTH AT THE QB POSITION AND YOU CAN'T BE MAD AT THAT AT ALL. IN NO WAY IS CULPEPPER ANYTHING LIKE AARON BROOKS. I LOOK FORWARD TO A HEATED TRAINING CAMP BATTLE BETWEEN MCCOWN AND PEP.

HAMMER THAT DAMN DEAL OUT JARMARCUS!!
