they did so knowing that if the occasion occerred in which they would be needed on the battle field, it would be something they would have to do
Ok, but maybe a war seemed really unlikely at the time.

And the commercials are so nice n shiny. 'Join the army. Get an education. Be all you can be.' But they forget to say, oh, and by the way, you might have to kill some people too.

If someone joined the military and didn't think they might have to fight some day...then they are retarded. An Idiot, Moron, Dweeb, etc.

Everyone knows what the joining the military is all about.

You think that the government is going to give you an education, training and money, and expect nothing in return?

Please...what do you think they are doing that for?

My Dad was in the 509th Rangers Airborne in early to mid 80's.

He used to always say "Join the army. Travel the world, Meet new interesting People, And Kill them". I thought that was a funny saying.

couldnt have seemed unlikely anytime during the last 20 years. for most of the 80's we were involved in the cold war. from their we went into the gulf war. also a military skirmish in panama. after the gulf war we also had altercations in solalia, bosnia, and again in iraq. so there is no way some1 could have gone into the Armed Forces not knowing there was a chance they would be involved in a military conflict

those are the benefits. and alote of people have taken advantage of them. that doesnt include their base pay, free rent, discounted prices of goods.

i would assume even the most (naive-stupid) type of person would know that when the military hands you an M-16. and begins training you. they should have an idea that one day they might be called upon to fight
