PlayStation 3 slow, hard to program
As more technical details of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3 leak out, it appears that the videogame console is going to be underpowered and difficult to program, according to the Inquirer, largely because of the way it handles memory. The main selling point of the PS3 is its Cell microprocessor, developed at a cost of billions of dollars by Sony, IBM, and Toshiba to deliver breathtakingly realistic graphics. But in reality, the PS3 may not be able to deliver the promised performance. PS3Portal noted earlier this year that adding support for video chat and other interactive features will take away some of the processing power available for rendering game graphics.

And if the graphics aren't up to par, will gamers be willing to pay a premium price of $500 or $600 for the PS3? This may well explain the recent departure of Sony's U.S. PR chief for the PlayStation. On the bright side, corporate synergy could at last pay off: Getting into the movie business has taught Sony nothing if not how to cope with expensive flops.

Sony zombies have to understand that their beloved Sony is in real jeopardy this time around. M$ has already established a healthy lead against them and the gap's only going to widen between now and when the PS3 finally launches. Sony's got a lot of catching up to do here in the US.
It won't be easy. I think the best case scenario for Sony is that they will split the next gen market with M$ here in the States.

As for Japan, let me make this very clear;
Nintendo's going to dominate Japan....

Why is the DS outselling the vastly superior PSP?
Especially in Japan.

Famitsu magazine (the bible of gaming in Japan) recently held a poll where close to 70% of the people polled said that they plan on purchasing the Nintendo Wii. And the main reason given was the PS3's price tag.

Remember, I said Japan and not the US

^^^I love how this fool says that Microsoft has a lead, last I checked Microsoft was loosing money. (Just like that negative 4 billion they're standing with currently for the original xbox.)
And how much is Sony losing altogether as a corporation????
They are struggling, the Playstation brand is the only thing bringing revenue for them.
How much more is M$ prospering as a corporation altogether?
Do your research before you jump into conclusions.
M$ has about a 4 to 5 million unit instal base ahead of Sony already....

Sure the Sony zombies will sell their souls for a PS3,
but what about gamers in general?
Remember you cats are hardcore gamers and you do not speak for the casual gamer :dead:

Sony will be losing more money than microsoft on their systems. If Sony ends up being market leader again, which I dont think will happen this time around, the difference will not be huge like it was with the PS2. I personally think nintendo will regain its position as number one again.

Wrong.

Mario is the most recognizable character in gaming history. When people (gamers and non-gamers) think of video gaming they initially think of Nintendo and Mario. So it is impossible for Sony to be more recognizable than either Mario or Nintendo to the casual OR avid gamer.

As far as total numbers I do think that it will be closer than the last time with the PS2 basically dominating the market. The Wii has the same advantage that Sony has. They sell in Japan. The Xbox may have a huge lead in the US but it definitely needs to catch up in sales in Japan because they've only sold like 100,000 units there.

The Wii is getting plenty of media attention and I think if the system IS what Nintendo claims it will be it will definitely sell due to the price tag it's supposed to be carrying and the fact that it's targeted not only at gamers but also at non-gamers.

NOT TO MENTION THAT SONY WILL ONLY HAVE 2 MILLION UNITS, AND WONT BE ABLE TO REPLENISH THERE SUPPLY UNTIL MARCH OF 07' AND ONLY 5 MILLION BY JUNE OF 07'. I THINK A SIMPLE PRICE DROP MY MICROSOFT AND THE CHEAP WII, WILL BE THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN.

A "casual" gamer will not spend $500 or $600 on a gaming console.
Especially when there are much cheaper alternatives that offer content on par with what's available on the PS3.

M$ might as well just give up in Japan.
They'll never sell well there unless they dominate the markets in the rest of the world.

People do not realize that the DS has done wonders for Nintendo.
It's brought people back to the company's classic franchises.
Especially in Japan, Nintendo is the ish over there right now.
The anticipation for the Nintendo Wii is growing day by day.
I wonder how well the Wii will do over here (I plan on buying one).
But the price sure will make it attractive, Nintendo already said that it won't cost over $250.

Yeah Sony admitted that at best they will have sold 6 million units by June 07. And keep in mind that these numbers are based on the maximum number of units they can provide, and doesn't reflect the number of units sold by that date.
With M$ already approaching a 5 million user base with a projected 10 million user base by the time the PS3 launches, Sony has a LOT of catching up to do.
And you are right by bringing up the Nintendo Wii.
No one knows how it will do, if it flies off of shelves here in the US as well; it could very well be the nail in the coffin.

Only thing PS3 will have over 360 is Blu-Ray..nothing else! They even lost the rumble feature on the controller....

It's about games...and game devolpment costs are up, so it will all be about 1st party games!! There will be hardly any 3rd party exclusives this generation...So what does Sony have in it's stable for 1st party game that is a big seller? God of War...compare that to Microsoft Halo?!?! Then give Microsoft 10 million unit lead...Sony is gonna be in for the fight of their life this generation...plan and simple...

Sony's biggest system seller last generation was Grand Theft Auto.....now I can get that Day 1 on my 360 and play Gears of War, and Halo 3....hummmmmm...or I can pay $600 for a PS3 and play Heavenly Swoard and Hot Shot's Golf.....but I will give Sony this MGS4 looks good...but let's actually see gameplay and not some CG movie...

halo sucks...i'll stick with socom (a first party title by the way). fuck shooting an alien with a laser,i want to shoot a terrorist with a M4.

you forgot to mention sony's investment in a little company called square...and i dont care who you are you cant argue with the pull that has.

sony has always had the games, thats why it always came out on top even when superior systems like the xbox were on the market...i dont see that changing much. especially when M$ still doesnt have all the support it needs from japanese developers
