I'll wait for a price drop and for more variety of games, then I'll ask a jank to steal one for me and get it even cheaper, not worth all that money tbh.

hows the display on them different butcher? any clearer?
i dunno, ive never held a psp vita lol. i imagine its a bigger screen and looks a lot better.

i can tell you the screen on the gameboy 3ds looks shitty compared to the psp go, but overall the psp go is just kinda lame cause you have to pay full retail cost for any game download

haha they do say that dont they?? I like getting into argurments at stores I dont frequent much by saying "how come they didnt name this PSP2" they get fired up over that shit lol
gamestop is the worst place to buy game, i understand its ur job to ask for preorders, but do i look like i give a fuck about lego games/ harry potter? i havnt bought a game since red dead bc those fuckers are way too annoying. i flat out refuse to go into gamestop now unless im buying a used game for my kids and even that is a hassle.

^^^i bet you can buy hard copies of psp games hella cheap though online now, huh? the library is pretty decent by now too.

yea but thats the thing, the psp go doesnt use UMD cartridges like the regular psp, its download only. so any game you want you have to pay full retail cost for the download, which i didnt really take into consideration when i bought the thing. i thought, oh cool, sweet! downloadable games are usually cheap, i can probably buy a ton of games for cheap! NOOOOOPE. lol. their brand new games are like 29.99 or 39.99. even old ass games are expensive, like i bought final fantasy 7 for 19.99. its pretty fuckin wack if youre used to buying really cheap games from pawn shops and shit for dirt cheap.

this is also why the psp vita sucks. lets say you own a regular psp, you have all these little psp discs, UMD's or whatever theyre called, and you buy the psp vita. LOL @ you cause all your games are fuckin worthless, you have to download them all through the playstation store and pay full retail price all over again. and sony just announced that they scrapped their plans to offer a UMD to PSP vita transport program for peoples old game libraries in the US. in japan they started one where you could prove you had the physical disc, the UMD or whatever, then they would offer you the psp vita download for a significantly reduced price, it was called the PSP VIta UMD passport program. they announced they arent going to do that here in the united states. they basically said fuck you, pay for the games all over again if you want to play them on the vita.

sony really fucked up with this psp vita, i have no idea how theyve moved millions of units already in japan, theyre making a raping with this fuckin vita right now and laughing all the way to the bank

No Plans for PS Vita UMD Passport Program in US Ever, Says Sony
February 23, 2012

Sony says that it won't make the same mistakes again with the PS Vita, but in the same breath it says that it won't support legacy software from the PSP on its new platform. With the launch of the PSP Go, the company simply decided that its UMD format was no longer going to be supported on new hardware and so the PS Vita continues that tired old trend. The sad part is it is doing this in the U.S. and European markets - the markets where the new system will ultimately shine brighter than in Japan.

Speaking with Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, Wired asked them why they wouldn't be offering the UMD Passport plan in regions outside of Japan. The UMD Passport program allows consumers in Japan to transfer games they own on UMD to the new system, via codes.

"I’m sorry we are not doing it in the States, but there are two factors that contributed to the decision as I understand it," Yoshida tells Wired. "I’m not in a position to make that kind of business decision. The system has been introduced in Japan, where there is a much larger demand for PSP games. When you look at the release schedule of new titles there are still lots of PSP games being released in Japan and being announced for release. Lots of people who are interested in trying Vita are also interested in playing PSP games that they might purchase before Vita comes out, and will not necessarily choose the digital version."

He went on to say that the sales price of popular games are reasonable and that there was very little demand for a UMD Passport program in the U.S. He also said it wouldn't be cost effective.

"There are many, many games that are sold at an affordable price," he continued. "Because people in Japan are not getting the digital copy for free, because it costs us money to develop and maintain the system so we are asking people to pay somewhere between $5 and $10 to receive the digital copy in addition to what they have on the UMD."

"When you compare that to the price of games here, PSP games in Japan are sold at a much higher price, so people see the value in spending the $5 to $10 to get the digital copy. But when the games are already sold at a lower price in the U.S. we see less value in introducing that kind of system. The combination of the new titles available, or the lack of, and the price difference, the company decided to do that."

So if you were holding out hope that Sony would change course on this decision, this news should put those kinds of thoughts out to pasture...

i guess theyre just being honest about it though, if you think about it, 19.99 or 29.99 or 39.99 isnt bad for a brand new game; or even a classic game that you love that was ported onto the psp. are other people offering true backwards compatability like this? sure youre paying for the game you might own already... but being able to play your favorite ps1 or ps2 games or even games from other system on this brand new handheld on a whim is pretty cool i guess, if money isnt an issue. and its not free to make a regular psp game compatible with a brand new psp vita, im sure theres stuff that goes into doing that which costs them money. its kind of absurd to expect a company to lose money to give you free stuff. thats like owning huge stacks of VHS tapes and saying "well i just bought a DVD player so you should give me all these VHS movies i own as DVD's and for free" then getting mad that they dont want to do that.

at least when you look at what other people are doing, like charging you $59.99 for a game you beat in 6 hours, then charging you $29.99 for an expansion pack that includes stuff that they just took out of the original game you bought and spruced it up and made it look like a separate thing; or stupid little things like new guns or costumes. then if you try to bring it to your friends house or play it in the other room or whatever you have to pay $9.99 for an online pass. i mean it could be a whole lot worse.

if you think about it youre paying like 1/3rd vs consoles and getting everything "brand new" and licensed and legit; and for instance if my psp go craps out the games are attached to my sony account and i can re-download them all, i own them forever.

sony knows that theres no money in physical media, thats where xbox and playstation and pc lose a shit ton of money; cause people buy a game once then it gets sold and traded two-three-maybe even more times over; each time it gets passed on thats money that they lose since they only made money that first time the game was sold. it also skews demand; they base what they create and market based on sales, so lets say the dopest game ever comes out on disc but only sells 250,000 units, they'll look at it like a failure. even if those 250,000 discs were traded ten times over and 2,500,000 people loved and enjoyed the game and want more from the series; game companies dont know that because theyre just looking at sales, and the dollar ultimately controls all marketing and developing, not nostalgia or fan-boi'ism. so sony is just trying to protect themselves when it comes down to it, and i dont think theyre maliciously trying to screw people over.

shit is just different nowadays, and while it might seem shitty, thats just the way it is. used games are going to die. the free ride is nearly over. sony is just the first to commit to it 100%

anyway just thought id present the other side of the argument since i was bashing the psp vita just a second ago lol. i still have no urge to buy the psp vita

the vita itself, in the light that you've just put it, is somewhat of a test-run for the future of console gaming. i for one am curious to see if this move towards digital-only releases & the elimination of used games ends up deterring the casual gamer. no physical copy + a set-in-stone price tag makes me cringe a little, & i dont even buy used games.

edit: that being said, i suppose my attachment to physical media may be where i show my age a little. i think kids these days are less concerned about that aspect of the equation than the majority of our generation... & even within our generation, itunes & the internet have had a huge impact on how we feel about such things...

& on that note, i'm on my way out the door to pick up another 40.

I thought they already did that with the PSP GO and it bombed. I like owning the physical copies better as well, but buying the digital version will allow you to re-download the game if you erased it accidentally or you had to replace your old console with a new one.

except when sony or microsoft decide to pull support. it's already happening, EA just pulled the plug on online services for a bunch of current gen games.
