lol @ thinking BTBAM is overrated and then super jocking PTH. That makes no sense what-so-ever. PTH more or less wants to be BTBAM but doing a gay Dragonforce sounding metal infusion instead a kind of death metal infusion like BTBAM.

You know I'm just fucking with you because I'm all for "like what you like" but that actually made me laugh.

Thanks RJ.

:chinese:
I didn't say BTBAM wasn't any good, I just think everyone "super jocks" the living hell out of them way too much. I'll take a good harmony over 10 minutes of sweeps and tapping any day.
....... Unless it's PTH doing the sweeps and tapping.

Havent heard Opposite of December but im willing to check it out for sure.

But just to be clear, I didnt mean to imply that I disliked scream (and/or metal) vocals, I listen to a good amount of hard metal, hardcore punk, and other music that has illegible vocals. I just meant, in this case of PTH, Im glad the vocals are how they are because I feel it goes with the music very well. If he was screaming his head off I wouldnt see as much appeal in the group with the exception of the obvious instrument skill. The erraticness of their songs instrumentally is what really got me into them. It's just so off-timed and purposely eccentric, that it takes a long time to get one song in your head into full memory. I love shit like that.

I'll check out Poison the Well though since you mentioned them, havent heard 'em.

Vocals can sometimes carry their meaning without even understanding the words, as stupid as that sounds lol. I listen to a lot of foreign bands, bot the singing type and the screaming type (sometimes both) and it doesn't bother me that I don't know what the hell they are talking about as long as the music sounds good. That's just my opinion on the subject.

But yeah, still not feeling this band at all. Thanks though RJ.
One of the main faults behind that thinking, is that for all you know those screams and grunts could be something you dont agree with....like racism, or a different point of view on political stand points, anti-semtism. Thats one of the reasons i cant stand scraming or grunting. Its not artisitic either...anyone can scream a bunch of non sense at the top of their lungs into a mic, or just wallow and grunt. I do understand why the SOUND is great becuase musically as a whole, the package works. Kinda like how someone rappin fast sounds dope, even if the lyrics suck.

I didn't say you said they aren't any good. It's just I find it funny that you like what is more or less a BTBAM knock off band with some Dragonforce mixed in better then them. That's all.

10 minutes of amazing sweeping and tapping > Average singing/harmony

Because I have to agree, the lead singers voice isn't that great at all. Plus I hate Dragonforce and their music reminds me of that so much.

*edit*

This is the last time I post in this thread because I don't want to throw off the topic of the thread. Enjoy the album to those who like it.

Haha id agree with that and that's funny to me too when people are like that,

Naw im no producer though, I just meant I know all electronic terms and terms related to production behind a screen. I dont know if Wigneck correctly identifies someone into hardcore techno and DNB. I barely even listen to Rap, if ever.

Ive never had a split second of interest in learning an instrument even though music is basically one of the only things I "really" care about in life. Im a listener and analyzer, not a player.

I'll get on Hero at any time though.. lol

Anyway i guess i should go look what sweeping and tapping mean, but id rather hear what it means relevant to your guys' groups rather than what wikipedia says

Didn't see this then it's my last post in this thread. I read the lyric books that come with most screamo/foreign bands and look up lyrics/translations online. You can usually tell a lot from a band just by checking out the cover/art/liner notes/etc or just looking into it online. Most "real" screamo/"real" emo bands are very anti-racist/sexist/classist/etc. As for artistic, well that's in the eye of the beholder. Art can be anything to anyone. Screaming is a lot harder then you would think, and not anyone can do it actually without causing major damage to themselves. If you just went on stage and screamed for a hour straight without the proper training or know how you would fuck your throat up majorly within a few days tops. Now I'm not saying it is anywhere near as hard to do as being a good singer, that would be stupid to say. I'm just saying it's kind of like the whole "anyone can rap" gibberish that people that don't like rap music say. Hell, they have whole series of videos deticated on how to scream properly/better. Like Smurf I can understand I'd say about 90% if not higher of the bands I listen to that have screaming minus the foreign ones of course. Some of the best lyrics I have heard in years are from "real" screamo bands. It just takes sometime time to get a ear for hearing what they are saying (screaming, whatever) just like it does with rappers that rap fast. After awhile you can make out what they are saying.

*edit*

And just to clear it up when I say "real" scream/emo I mean bands likes Funeral Diner, Raein, Daitro, Suis La Lune, etc. Not the teeny bopper I want to cut myself stuff like Alesana, Pierce The Veil, etc.

its better not to understand lyrics or what?
just cause you cant decipher or understand the lyrics doesnt mean nobody else can. for the most part i can probably understand 90% of the lyrics on most of the artists i listen to. my favorite bands like all that remains and from autumn to ashes i can sing word for word no problem. if you really listen to for what it is and try to listen instead of judging it as just noise its amazing what you start to hear

shit i listen to a coheed and cambria album and i can understand half the shit claudio says because of his delivery and they was he pronounces things. there is always going to be a gray area regardless of vocal delivery

i just think that the majority of clean vocals these days suck ass. everybody sounds the same, there is no emotion. especially in the majority of the hard rock and punk scene. swear i could listen to 20 albums and think they were by the same 2 people. so with that said, at least with screaming i am getting some kind of an emotion,a vocal that will match the intensity of the music. not some guy that sounds like a 16 year old whining over the whole track.

yeah, no i totally understand why they are good in most cases, I listen to a lot of hard metal. I guess its just difference of opinion though cause in this case i dont think id listen to Protest if i couldnt hear what he was saying, the lyrics are intriguing to me because theyre so fucking abstract haha.

Autumn to Ashes and All That Remains are not screamo bands. Yelling and screaming are to VERY different things.
