i'm considering getting some kind of dog in the near future. i like pitt bulls, but I want to hear the good and bad sides of pitts from actual owners. I like that they're hella playful and loyal, but most of my homies pitts are too fuckin hyper...can you get a somewhat-mellow pitt???

Everybody that has spent significant time around pitts, list the pro's and con's of having a pit VS another type of dog. Thanx.

DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE TOO.....IF YOU RENTING YOUR LANDLORD MIGHT NOT LIKE THAT FACT OF YOU HAVIN A PITT....AND IF YOU OWN YOUR OWN HOUSE A LOT OF INSURANCE CARRIERS WONT INSURE YOU WITH CERTAIN TYPES OF DOGS PITTS BEING ONE OF EM.....SO YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HIDE THE FACT THAT YOU OWN ONE....

WHEN THEIR PUPPIES THEY TEAR EVERYTHING UP SO KEEP YA BACCYARD EMPTY....OTHER THAN THAT I ODNT SEE NO OTHER CONS IN HAVIN A PITT....LIKE CUDDIE SAID IF YOU TREAT IT RIGHT ITLL LOVE YOU BACC.....

the only con i can think of, is you got to have a big back yard for it to play in, or else its gonna get alot of pent up energy and its gonna end up rippin up your couches, bushes, or what have you. Other than that they are great companions

Yes - the one thing that I can suggest is make sure you have a big yard for him/her to play in. Pitts are one of the most hyper dogs... and if you don't give them room to move and run it off... they will put all that energy into tearing your shit up. And believe me... anything and everything... I have gone through it all. If you get your dog neutered then they will be less hyphy and not run around trying to hump everything in sight...

I can tell u that my pitt is the most loyal dog I have had by far... to anyone that is close with him... if I am so much as play fighting with someone and scream... he is quick to jump on someone and let him know that he means business... he is very protective...

GET ONE AND LOCK IT IN A CLOSET FOR A WHILE AND ONLY OPEN THE CLOSET TO POKE HIM WITH A BROOM STICK OR FEED HIM. WHEN YOU POKE HIM HIDE YOUR FACE AND WHEN YOU FEED HIM SHOW YOUR FACE. 4 DAYS OF THAT THEN LET IT OUT AND BE ITS BEST FRIEND. TRAINED TO HATE STRANGERS!

Make Sure You Check Heavily Into the Breeder's. I Wouldnt Suggest Buyin A Pup From Some Dude Around The Corner.
Spend Money On A Good Pit If Thats The Dog You Really Want They Already Have A Bad Reputation...Get A Pup From Someone Who HAs Been Breeding For Over Ten Years Your Almost Guaranteed To Get A Good Dog.You HAve Different Breeders For Different Jobs Of The Dog Gotta Know What Your Looking For...Never Know What Your Getting From People Who Breed Pits Just Cause They Have Access...
Just An Opinion From A Pit Owner...

they still have that killer instinct in em tho.... like when they see another dog, they gonna wanna hit if they a game dog. And if you leave em alone in the room with a kid and the kid starts pullin his tail or hittin him in the face, you're in trouble. Most dogs will bite the kid in that situation, but in this case, it's a fatal mistake. If you've never had one, you're kinda taking a gamble...but as long as you get it as a pup, you can kinda raise it how you want to pretty much...but there's always that chance

Dont try this at home or any were else for that matter. Pits have a very good nose and they'll smell your a** out. Money Money Money Money Money and Money That is the the down of having a pit. Dog food, shoots, toys, insurence all of this comes into play when owning a pit so have allot of money set a side when you decide to buy a pit. Also vet check ups are a must. All of this cancels out by having your dog stay up waiting for you to come home on a Saturday night; Seeing the dogs face look out the window as you get out of your car and having his big a** jump right on top of you when you open the door. I have not ever had another breed of dog, but I must say my experience with my pit is like meeting a down a** homie that barks out his words. Checks is a straight rider!
