Obviously you need basic tools. Don't think for a second though that tools can replace talent. All the top-of-the-line high-tech tools in the world equals nothing if you have no talent.

A good engineer/producer with the proper tools can make a half assed artist sound great. But HE MUST have the proper equipment to do it.

This is a typical comment from people who don't do this kind of work professionally. How do you think 'great' music was made before all this high-tech computer stuff was invented? What's so high-tech about a couple live instruments and some real talent? The REAL 'proper tools' a person needs isn't a fuckin' computer and expensive software, it's a creative mind and the ability to express that creativity without losing the feeling.

Now, I don't know what you think but I NO GEAR IN THE WORLD can work miracles. No gear in the world can make up for experience either. Like I said, music is not a mechanical field. It's based on peoples ability to be creative and no computer in the world can make your mind more creative.

Maybe you don't realize this but you're impling that greatness can be bought. "A good engineer/producer with the proper tools can make a half assed artist sound great." Sorry man but you will never be able to sell me on that dream. I have too much experience to fall for that one.

The cost of a full 24 tracc studio 10 years ago was well over 50 thousand dollars it , because of computers and software, is now down to about 5 thousand dollars. I think the more people we have making music the better. It is more competition. And competition is good.

You make it sound like anybody can do good music. So you must think taking a million tone-def people and having them make music is somehow creating 'good competition'? I'm not biting on that one either. Again, I have too much experience to fall for it.

Does he realy belive that you can plug a radio shak mic into a home stereo and make a million dollars? Even if you are the tightest artist in the world that would not work.

Don't underestimate the value of true talent. And don't forget, there was a time when the stuff at radio shack was high-tech top-of-the-line. All this fancy computer bullshit is still new technology in the music world.

I may never make it to sell a million albums but I KNOW that within the next two years i WILL be making enough money localy to take care of my family and buy myself some nice things. And in the end that is all i am interested in.

There about a zillion cats who 'know' the same shit. The odds are against you on this one but good luck anyway! My hats off to anyone who can pay their bills every month doing music.

Damn, I just posted on that other Thread for the other dude givin' away shit.
I hope you don't get offended By it. There's sum "real talk" goin' on in this thread. Keep doin' what ya'll doin', and good luck.

...and I wish I could live offa my music too. But until I do, I got make do with what I have, and I'm lucky to have what I got. I have a shitty ass Car, that'll probably fall apart as I'm driving it. i'd have a nicer ride, But I buy Music equipment and Weed with all my money instead. All I can do is just keep doin' it, stay on track, and remain Dedicated(and keep a good positive attitude about it all)

@Sick wit it- you make some good points and i think we are just misunderstanding each other because i agree with you. I am coming from a engineers standpoint not as a artist. And from a engineers standpoint i know how important my tools are and i know that this is a very mechanical field. 4 years of college tells me that. But you are right the most important aspect of this game from a artists standpoint is talent. You can in no way buy talent. But feel me on this. Recording equipment is becoming so cheap that if a talented artist could get his hands on the proper recording and mastering tools he could easily put out his own music and make a nice chunk of change doing it. I already make enough money to take care of myself and my family renting out studio time. Within the next two years when i begin to put out albums i will be able to live "Comfortably" meaning at 25 i will own my own house and a nice car and be able to send my son to that new private school in the next town where he can be classicly trained in music. I am a living example that their is more then enough money to be made on the local level. I live in a town of150 thousand and according to my projected sales and my CPA i will easily clear over a hundred thousand this next year (January 1, 2003 to january 1,2004) in my state alone. And that is a conservitive projection. You see not everyone can make good music but because of the falling prices in recording equipment everyone can now afford to make music both good and bad. I am just trying to help everyone out. The bad music will get weeded out eventualy so im not worried about it. But at least everyone now has a level playing field to play on.

@Big J- I saw your other post. I have alot of vst instruments as well as recording programs and effects plug ins. I belive they are all cross platform but i dont know for sure. just shoot me your adress and i'll send them all to you for free. The vst's i know i do have are generator, halion, modle-e, lm4, lm9, neon, and others.

I tottaly understand what you guys are saying and belive me i in no way think you can drop just anyone in the middle of a room full of production equipment and have them make good music. But then you have people like my homeboy Toney who never had a interest in producing untill he visited a full midi studi and now he makes bangin ass beats. That studio would have not existed without 95% of the pireted software i am giving away. Do you see my point
