i rather put my child in a class that has 20 students or less...than put him/her in a class with 30-40 students. though having a successful social life is a positive in some respects...i also want my child to have a great education. in most cases...you can not get that at a public school. public school is more or less a daycare center for teens...atleast that what it felt like when i went there.

i will say one thing...if my child ends up going to public school...i'll be damned if he/she is gonna take anything less than AP classes.

And that's the attitude you have to have. School is what you make of it. I know people who got great educations from public schools and those who didn't get shit out of it, and the same goes with private schools. What it comes down to is parental guidance and importance on education and the individual's drive. I just think in addition you get a more well rounded real life experience at a public school, so that's where I would send my children.

all i gotta say is i think that peoples opinions depend on where they came from, and their "Class struggle" mentality and definitely their partisanship. I think a Democrat, especially one from the lower classes, is gonna say a public school, and vice versa. To me, i live in an area where the public schools are a about in a 2:1 ratio with private schools. We play each other in sports, and compete in academic competitions as well. It's obvious that there are differences. San Rafael is the most diverse high school in Marin County, and its not but 10 miles from Marin Catholic, an esteemed private school, where the attendance is PREDOMINANTLY, and i mean predominantly white. Then theres the elitist private school Branson, in Ross. Costs 30g's a year to go there...thats more than Stanford's tuition, and 5 times as much as Cal Berkeley's tuition. Sometimes its not about the better education, but the image that a private school gives off, or the name on that diploma. Separation in education is fucking ridiculous...ur always gonna create class separation thru separating education. Thats why half the working class is at a high school level. Anyway, ima go with public education. will have to write more later.

a few of the reasons i say private school education is wack:

1 - the schools are typically underfunded. yes, you do pay a tuition to go there, but that's not a very tantamount replacement for tax dollars.

2 - because of the lack of funds, the textbooks tend to be outdated and beat up, computer labs are lacking, science classes are more book work rather than hands on lab experiments, and they don't have the equipment for a good PE class.

3 - a LOT of private schools are associated with religion. the ones i've seen usually have nuns teaching the majority of the classes. i've met a few down to earth nuns before, but most of them are VERY traditional and can't connect with the kids they're teaching. i'm not even sure if they're required to have a teaching degree..

4 - there's a limit on the classes you can take. keep in mind i'm speaking from my own experience, but i never got a choice between 4 or 5 different levels of math to choose from or whether i wanted to take biology as opposed to learning the difference between a mammal and a fish AGAIN. i only had ONE choice (if you can call it that...) of what class i got, and that class generally moved as slowly as the class idiot.

5 - you have to wear uniforms. i didn't learn how to dress myself till last year, no shit.

6 - because the schools tend to be smaller, you're with the same 40 or so people throughout your school years. while some may argue that it promotes a "family" type feeling, it alternatively could stunt your ability to meet new people.

7 - and the last reason....after being out of touch with the real world for so long, your kid will go FUCKING NUTS when they finally get out. that's why catholic school girls are such hoes.

IM SORRY BUT WHEN PRIVATE SCHOOLS BOAST A 95% PLUS GRADUATION RATE, THE CHOICE IS REALLY FUCKIN SIMPLE. NOT ONLY THAT BUT GO LOOK UP THE STATS OF KIDS THAT LEAVE PRIVATE SCHOOL AND GO ON TO GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE. I GUARANTEE YOU THE NUMBER IS HIGHER THAN THE PERCENT OF KIDS WHO ACTUALLY GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL AT ALL.

and thats another thing...unless you dont want your kid to go to college...its looks alot better on your apps if the kid graduated from a private school...but on the same token...AP classes look great too...too bad not everyone can get into AP classes.

Private school.

When I had the option to goto a private school or the local public school my parents placed me in the private school and I was pissed. Little did i know that 3 years later everyone who I wanted to goto school with was kicked out or dropped out or on drugs.

Not just that, in general private schools teach a lot of shit. I guess it all depends on where you live, but if youve been to the city of SF or Oakland lately and saw the situation with the public schools I think you'd reconsider. Private schools, especially catholic schools, tend to provide high quality education, integrate the rich and the poor so that everyone gets real life experience and tend to talk about social and political issues that kids in public schools cant even spell.

i feel really sorry for the kids who have parents with the attitude that public schools can do better for their kids by placing them around a large group of under or non achievers. you can argue with reality til youre blue in the face. unless youre going to a public school in an affluent area, youre running the risk of short changing your childrens futures by sending them to a public school when you have the means to send them somewhere with more prestige.

After attending public schools I would send my kid to a private school if I could afford it. Public schools are a fucking joke. We had text books that were 20 years old. lmao
