Hold up, not to get technical, but Austrians and Hungarians aren't AT ALL directly related. Austrians are germanic like Germans and Swiss, but Hungarians are Magyar -- they didn't even live in Europe until 900 AD when they rode in on their hairy horses from the Asian steppes. Their languages are NOTHING alike. Bad Example.
Portugese/Spain are more like Polish/Ukrainian, or Norweigian/Swedish. It makes a big difference to them, but from the outside, everyone is like "eh, close enough".
