I don't know what side of the political spectrum you're on but here are some left of center rappers you might find interesting...

Public Enemy... their older stuff ('86-'91) is really good
Wise Intelligent of PRT... has some interesting things to say
Big Jus... released an album... 'Poor Peoples Day' a few months back
NMS... their first album 'Woe to thee O Land Whose King is a Child'... is a bit abrasive but worth a listen...

... David Banner, Mos Def, and Juvenile have each recorded post Katrina songs that are worth checking out... but I can't recall the names of any of them at the moment...

I'll listen to Mos Def, I'm straight with the other two rappers.
don't sleep my man... Juvenile and David Banner really opened my eyes to some of the politricks going down in the wake of Katrina...
I never thought those two would ever deliver anything of substance but they really did...

Mr SOS > *, hes one of the members of Cunninlynguists, his two cd's/mixtapes are very political and bush related, anti-bush of course, actually cunninlynguists can get quite political too on some songs, plus their shit sounds very, VERY good

Most reggae of the roots variety has at least a couple of songs that are political in nature. I love the shit, personally. Barrington, Don Carlos, Gregory Isaacs, Eek-A-Mouse, Freddie McGregor, Junior Reid,...I could go on for minute.

Oh, and that post Katrina Mos Def was called Katrina Klap. I would say every album he's cut has at least 3 jams on it that are political. My favorite has to be What's Beef?...

"Beef is oil prices and geo-politics,
Beef is Iraq, the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
Some beef is big and some beef is small,
but what y'all call beef is not beef at all,
beef is real life, happening everyday,
and it's realer than them songs that you gave to Kay Slay.."
