so using another persons wireless internet is okay.. right
Yes. If they didn't want anyone to use it...they should use a WEP/WPA key . Some people willingly share their connections. Some don't. I wouldn't put any personal information through though if I were you. Do you have an idea of who may own the connection. if it's Aunt Granny down the street do as you please...but if it's some dude that knows what's up...everything you do and type can be monitored. I'm using Aunt Granny's connection :)

Yup you need the PCI card for a desktop. this is the one I use
http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=12

Also you need a cross over cable...looks just like the regular Cat 5 ethernet cable..but the wires are in a different order on the ends of the cable...this is so you can connect your game system directly to the computer without the use of a router. I recommend doing it this way...because some routers act funny as shit when it comes to online gaming. and there are more settings required. I got a 10 ft cross over cable at Radio Shack. Then look at the settings I mentioned in the previous posts I made. You should be straight.

Edit: If you're having problems picking up the signal you can attach a stronger antennae to the card. The one that comes with it is detachable.

Actually another way to use the wi-fi connectivity comes straight out of sony's mouth, an interview they did with Game Informer they said "If you dont have a high speed internet connection, an easier way to go online is to go to a wi-fi "Hot spot" if their is any in your area..." in bigger cities many places offer a wi-fi connection so it wouldnt be hard, unless you live in smaller areas. And i thought stealing someones wi-fi by using a intercepter was illegal if they catch you?

But i had a question of my own. I live to far outside of my town to get high speed internet and no one around me is using wi-fi for me to "borrow", but my computer has a Ethernet port in the back of the tower i can basically bypass the dsl phone jack, but is their any way of making it so it doesnt run uber fucking slow?

I don't think anyone here is down to carry the 20 inch tube or their game console down to Starbucks. lol

DSL is good enough for most online games. You may want to optimize your pc for games. Do a google for XP game optimizer. Here's one:
http://www.findmysoft.com/Game_Optimizer_Pro-download.html

also look for a DSL booster like this one:

true i really wouldnt want to carry a console anywhere but Sony is making it to where the PSP and the PS3 work in synch and can upload, download off each other so using a psp at a starbucks wouldnt be so bad.

Thanks for the sites but i dont/cant get DSL of any sort except sat. internet and im not paying 500-600 for that so.

what does the xp game optimizer actually do? Would it boost the speed of a pc with just dial up?
