I'll actually go out and buy an album if it's good, hence: I downloaded it and felt I need to go copp this & own a legit hard copy.
The way I see it though, I have boxes and boxes of garbage Cd's that I bought over the years (mainstream & underground.) And I bought them when Cd's were $25 plus a piece (do the math.)
All of them artist ate good off me and I actually went through a box not long ago. There was not one song in there that was salvageable.
When the downloading epidemic came in the industry quickly dropped their prices, but the music got worse. Now, they sell the Cd's cheaper, but if you want the extra bonus tracks you have to buy them? So your paying twice for something you went out and bought?
That's like going to the movies and having them turn off the movie in the last 30 mins. And then making you pay extra if you want to see the ending.
Does it hurt the artist? I don't think so due to the fact that I've seen them drinking champagne that I can't afford, yet I pitched in for they're bottle. I also watched them smoke my money and I should be proud of supporting that? I've had people argue this with me, but in the end what am I truly supporting? The artist? Or his habit?
This is truly a case of, your dammed if you do & dammed if you don't.
As an artist myself, I'm already aware that this is unstoppable, so I truly don't lose sleep over it. One thing I won't do is incriminate myself on camera. And do the typical rapper stuff. I feel it's unprofessional and it's not something I want coming back to haunt me in any way.
