Do you have any plans to travel to the U.S. with the depressed dollar value any time soon?
I've saved about 3000€ (4230$) for a trip to California, but i havent had the time to go yet. College classes start next Monday so i will have to wait until next Break, which will be in February or next Summer.

Does the dollar value influence your travels at all?
When someone from Germany visits the USA he is very likely to spend a lot of his travel money on clothes or shoes they either cannot get back home or can find in your country much cheaper. I have been to the US six years ago and even then plenty of clothes or shoe items would cost less than in Germany, although that was at the time were the euro was just established and worth less than the dollar.
But no matter if the dollar value will stagnate or rise within the next months, i will bring an extra bag with me to bring stuff home.
I didn't stay at a hotel on my last trip, but i know the prices werent cheap back then, so im glad that i will probably safe some money or will have the chance to choose a better hotel on my next trip, in case the Euro value doesnt drop.

I never had plans to travel the U.S. and now the euro is much stronger then the dollar doesn't change one thing for me.

The US just doesn't appeal to me for traveling.. I think the nature and (some) cities would be amazing to see but I'd rather travel to South America or Asia... I don't know.. just a personal feeling.

The way the 'weak' dollar influences my travels is when I travel outside of europe people are more likely to accept the euro instead of the dollar which they prefered a couple of years ago but I rather pay in the local currency because I found out when paying in euros or dollars you always get ripped off.

I don't have the time right now otherwise I would. I plan on flyin there to visit friends in maybe 3 or 4 years...

Not caring that much bout the currency rate. I been to the US again and again since 92 and shit was always cheaper than in Europe...

what do those places have to offer? I have also heard abit about Miami, wouldn't mind going there. And do they have the death penalty?
Why does it matter if they have the death penalty? You planning on raping and killing 56 women and children? lol....

I don't know if they do, you should look up "Florida death penalty" on Google.

Seattle has: the entire downtown area, pike place market (which is famous, even though they treat their fish like shit by throwing it around--fuckin morons bruise the meat), the space needle, the EMP (experience music project) which is pretty dope, there's tons of history and memorobialia from artists like Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Bob Marley.......And even Cool Nutz who posts on here. Not to mention the hiking, and all the outdoors stuff...

The same pretty much goes for Portland...they're both in the NW...I don't know what kind of site seeing they got though.

LA is LA, there's tons of shit there to do. Chicago is alright, I've been there a few times, but I didn't find a lot to do.

Miami is cool, been there once...clubs and beaches and shit. My step-sister actually lives there and likes it a lot.....but she's into that glamour whore prada gucci live beyond your means type shit....but apparently some cats from the Miami Heat live in the same Condominium building as her.

Look up places you're interested in online. Most cities have their own web page with lists of things to do/see for tourists/site seers and things of that nature.

Has it influenced any of your travels to places other than the U.S.????

There are other countries that have currency pegged to the dollar that may be more attractive to seasoned travelers than the U.S.

My Cuba trip has been pushed back indefinitely due to the exchange rate from U.S. to Canadian dollars.

Were you flying to Canada and then down to Cuba or what? What's the story on that? I always hear that they hate Americans. Not that I can blame them.....

Speaking of Canada...lots of people from Canada are coming to the US to buy shit since the Loon is pretty much equal to the US dollar.

I don't know anyone that would ever say Cubans hate americans that has actually been to Cuba. Cubans in Cuban love americans. They know it is a shady goverment here that screws them and anyone that breaks the travel ban to go down there has to be extra cool. I can't imagine many other places where your status as an american could be any greater.

Canada & Mexico are the easiest ways to get there. Being that I'm closer to Canada than Mexico it is the prefered route - especially when the dollar to dollar exchange rate was better.

^^You cant fly directly to Cuba from the US but you can if go to Canada or Mexico

I believe there are still direct flights from Miami to Havana, there were until Bush jr anyway. You just need permission from the treasury department to go.

Canada or Mexico is the easy/illegal way.

@CB--

Right on, I've thought about going there but I always thought Americans weren't welcome.

I do know a person who's friend went through Vancouver BC and went to Cuba and came back with a Cuban cigar...but hell, they sell those bitches in Canada....at the fuckin ferry place.

I'm not worried about it being "illegal.." Do they stamp your passport when you go to Cuba or what? How can the US not tell you've been there?

Cuba doesn't stamp your passport if you're from the U.S. - they only stamp your visa - you can toss that out once you leave though.

I thought about going through school, but didn't want to go with a bunch of squares - plus it was waaaaaaay too expensive. I would have been kind of interested in seeing the party line on things from the official guides. I am pissed that they got to see a speech by Fidel while they were there – I doubt many appreciate that as much as I would have. I saw it from the people's level instead - more valuable and made a greater impression.

I probably wouldn't be a commie if it weren't for visiting Cuba.

I went during the "Special Period" when things were extra hard.

Too bad so many of you will be going through Vancouver - I'd say we should set up a trip.

I got a hand rolled cigar from Fidel’s former personal cigar roller – he worked in our hotel. We got a personalized tour from the official English translator at the Jose Marti monument. Went on a tour sponsored by the hotel and there were 9 of us in this tour van. 4 were a husband and wife and two daughters from mexico and the rest were from the U.S. there illegally. Went to a marina and met a sailor from the U.S. who told us about stories of the U.S. treasury department guys down there logging the boats from the U.S. that were all there illegally the day before – more boats from the U.S. than any other country there. All kinds of stories.

I'd recomend it over the U.S. any day for the outside of the U.S. people of the sicc for sure! With your freedom to travel and all.
