Im not sure who started back pack rap, but that shit was on the eastcoast as well.I can say that they did not help launch the independent movement...If too short had those tapes in 85....on up then the bay gets 100% credit for that..I do agree they deserve alot of credit and i do not mean to discredit what they have contributed to hip hop, there was others just like them..remember Def Jef...what about Divine styler..you can trace him back to the Syndicate days...I bought his first two tapes..1st was cool second..i would need a drug expert to tell me what he was on....Its crazy..Oh and freestyle rappin been around almost since the beginning.
I'm not sayin' those guys started the independent hustle that the Bay pioneered, but the indie rap blueprint for crews/labels like Anticon, and Battle Axe... And I do remember Divine Styler, the Dream Warriors too... But they just seemed odd... Out there... Hella esoteric, even cryptic... I never got that from the Goodlife MC's... They seemed more concerned with the way they rapped (technique) as opposed to what they rapped about...

Autumn Walls Containing Spirals of Light... Was that the name of his second shit...?

see niggas is stupid they never know what they got, always talkin shit on the next nigga cuz he's not doin what they feel he's sposed to be doin. Then some white people swoop in, see the potential, produce that shit, sign artist, buy contracts whatever, and get paid the most.

50cal i aint tryna get into an argument about it bruh...it was a great documentary..i didnt make it and i get no money out of it..but i see validity in it and ive been up on that whole scene since 1990..whether at good life or here...and no cube didnt sound like that before because i also listened to cube...im not a young nigga man i been followin this shit from the jump...i understand youre older but man i was breakdancing to herbie hancock in 1984...this shit aint new to me...

its cool if you dont think it has any validity in west coast hip hop but i know it does...and wasnt no one in hip hop doing what they did UNTIL they did it..whether you realize that or not.

Cube doesnt make beats he just picks what producers put in front of him..My homie made some beats for volume 10 remember Liquor store run..my homie did that i believe it was on the Rhyme and reason soundtrack.
Liqour Store Run was a dope ass track.

I could see Cube telling his producers he wants a "pistol grip pump" type song and they go make the beat, etc...

I also know about Jazzy D, he had that I Am A Dopefiend song and he used to roll with Mixmaster Spade (RIP)...

jazzy d is still a key factor in the LA rap scene to this day.. he plugged bishop lamont to sign with aftermath and got glasses malone his million plus signing deal with sony.. plus he runs a management company of basically the whole la new west movement..
