You can tell you haven't been a raider fan long.
It doesn't matter how long I've been a Raider fan. As of today, the Raiders aren't stupid enough to pass on Russell even if they do trade Randy Moss.

If, as now seems likely, the Oakland Raiders ship receiver Randy Moss to Green Bay in exchange for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, we believe that Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson would become Oakland's primary target with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Johnson is, in our opinion, a can't-miss prospect with a combination of size and speed and hands and, uncharacteristically at the receiver position, not a hint of a bad attitude.

So while it's a 50-50 proposition at best when burning a top-five pick on a potential franchise quarterback, Johnson's chances of becoming a long-term contributor are much greater, we believe.

And there's a wrinkle to all of this that we find very intriguing. Packers quarterback Brett Favre is pushing the team to acquire Moss. If Moss goes, the door is open for Johnson to be taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Favre is represented by Bus Cook. Cook also is involved in the representation of Moss, and the Moss transaction depends in large part on Moss and his agents working out a restructured contract with the Packers.

So if that gets done, then Johnson is poised to be the first guy off of the board.

His agent? Bus Cook.

We're not suggesting that Cook is trying to engineer the Moss trade so that Johnson will have a better shot at being the first overall pick. But the possibility of one client being the No. 1 selection in 2007 surely has at least entered the mind of the guy who surely has some influence over the extent to which Moss will be willing to accept the Packers' terms.

Them fools at profootballtalk don't know what they're talking about. No disrespect to CJ but we don't need him as bad as we need a Qb. We can't go into the season thinking that Rodgers and Watler can lead us. Oakland released Brooks so that opened the door for Russell. And the Green Bay/Oakland trade hasn't even happened yet.

JaMarcus Russell will be taken with the first pick by the Oakland Raiders.

Mark my words!

Oh yeah... don't forget. Even if we do trade Moss, we still have an early second rounder to work with so we could draft a receiver in the second round of the draft to replace Moss. If Green Bay wants Moss they better at least give us Rogers and this years 2nd rounder. We ain't givin' up jack to GB besides Moss. Take it or leave it. Keep it movin'.... hit the gravel and travel.

Ill be pissed if the Raiders draft a WR in the first couple rounds..we can still find good WR talent in later rounds. Theres much bigger needs that should be addressed the first day of the draft(QB, o-line, TE, DT etc.). Im pretty content with Porter and Curry as the starting WR's if Moss gets traded. Im confident as hell they could produce with improved play by the line, RB's and QB.

LOL! You're a fool fatal. Russell will be sporting the Silver and Black not the Silver and Blue. Ain't no way in hell the Raiders will let Russell get away. And the Moss trade ain't happening mayne. Not even on Friday. Moss might end up staying which spells bad news for the NFL especially the AFC West.

i don't understand how you think he's gonna make a positive impact. he dropped so many balls last year. he's not the same wr he was. no it's not the quarterbacks fault either.

I know that's what you want to see, and if it were any other team I may concur, but we're talking about the raiders here. They're known to blow 1st rounders and Al Davis is a moron with all the power. It wouldn't matter if Lane Kiffin was as ecstatic about Russell as you are, we all know the raiders are going to do what Al Davis wants to do.
