Source: Packers close to deal for Moss

For those holding out hope that the Patriots [team stats]’ plans to revamp the wide receiver position included trading for Randy Moss, we have some bad news for you.
A source in Wisconsin said today that the Packers and Raiders are on the verge of announcing a trade that would send the troubled receiver to Green Bay in exchange for backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
There are expected to be other particulars in the deal. According to the source, Green Bay would also give up a seventh-round pick in 2008, while the Packers would receive Raiders tight end Courtney Anderson as part of the deal. The Packers would also receive a conditional pick from the Raiders in the 2009 draft which would be based on Rodgers’ production in Oakland the next two seasons.
The source indicated that Moss has agreed to restructure his contract, which calls for $20 million in base salary the next two years. Moss and Packers quarterback Brett Favre are said to have been talking on the phone throughout the process. Press conferences could be held as early as Friday.

Damn... They maybe getting Rodgers as a backup. I know the Raiders can't be stupid enough to pass on Russell. CJ will be deep but he won't have anyone throwing him the ball.

I am with you Solitary 1... I am hoping Al won't do it. We gotta get more for Randy Moss.

So lets break it down

Raiders would get: Aaron Rodgers, a 7th Round pick in 2008
Packers get: Courtney Anderson, Randy Moss, and a conditional pick in 2009 based on Rodgers perfomance?

Robbery! Somebody please tell Al that someone from Green Bay is trying to work him.

HARLAN SAYS MOSS TRADE NOT IMMINENT

Outgoing Packers CEO Bob Harlan, who has been more talkative than ever over the past few days, tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette that a deal for Raiders receiver Randy Moss is not close to happening.

Harlan bases his assessment on the fact that G.M. Ted Thompson left on Tuesday for a scouting trip, and has not phoned in to tell Harlan that a deal was close.

?If [a trade] was that close, [Thompson] would have called us by now,? Harlan said.

Of course, given that Harlan has been flapping his lips about the Moss situation for most of the past week, maybe the close-vested Thompson realized that giving Harlan a head's up was the equivalent of shouting the news from the middle of Times Square with a megaphone.

And the fact that Harlan didn't say something like, "I have no idea what you're talking about" or "We have no interest in Randy Moss" or "Randy Moss will be doing the Lambeau Leap over my dead body" tells us that something is going on -- and that at this point it's more likely a matter not of "if" but "when."

Just seen our head coach on NFL Network... and he seemed very impressed with Russell! I don't think we'll be taking CJ. Not saying CJ isn't good but Russell will be the QB of the Raiders. So get ready!

If Al does do the trade, he truely has lost control of the Raiders.

If the raiders pass up on a QB and draft CJ it wouldnt help us much, the past two seasons they have moss and porter both on the same team and they didnt do much with them. the team needs draft a Qb and get some help on the O-line.

Raiders Never had Success when Drafting a QB. Every QB that the Raiders Drafted There Careers when to Hell!! Best To Get a QB that has some Success already off a Trade or a Free Agent!

What makes me so sure? Lane Kiffin being really impressed with Russell after attending the workout. I think Russell has had dinner with the organization or is planning on it. Plus Russell maybe coming out to Oakland or the bay area for a work out. So don't be surprised to see the Raiders begin contract negotiations before the draft. JaMarcus Russell will be a Raider.

It's feels good being part of the Raider nation!
