First of all the studio electronics company started when the mini moog was around.the moog didnt have midi.So they made a conversion of the moog called the midimoog..it was a mini moog the converted in a rack and they added midi.As you know the original moog and similar synths had all the knobs but you couldnt save a patch. So Studio electronics made the SE1 wich dre, battlecat, etc still use today. They basically hand built a rack unit with same components of a moog the se1 has all the same knobs as moog, and it comes with patches, and you can save patches..it comes with the mini filter and i think oberheim(yeah they was converting oberheims,prophets,tr808 to midi)...today they have the se1x...but you can find original for about800 and for about 350 upgrade to se1x wich you save alot.Just like the atc vs atcx you asked in those and the se1 vs. se1x the differences arent drastic..just add on to original design with minor add ons and new patches.....The atc has that membrane on the front you have to press a membrane button then dial to adjust se1 has all knobs...but you can hook up a midi controller with knobs and set so you can use controllers knobs....to end all confusion as i ramble....I would get any one of these they also have an omega series...each series has its own sound but these machines are considered cream of the crop..its 100% analog and you dont here of complaints..except for those that sold them and want one back....Fredwreck as well uses the atc..I know you gonna hear some reason budget using...say its not what ya have but what you put in it....that is true...but you cant make one of these sound like shit..that what i hear over and over...people trying..You cant compare someone who is a genius makin beats with reason to a horrible beatmaker using the atc,se1,omega...cause the non beatmaker cant make beats...but that same one using reason if he used the atc..he would notice a big difference
