It sounds better in the system doesn't it? A damn 808 can make any stock system or beat sound better than it really is, but playing funk will really put it to the test. The funk is the filter by which i judge all new music by.

hell yeah good thread...gotta say the "Push" album by One Way is one of the greatest ever, it would be dope if a hip hop artist recorded a tribute album and sampled every song on there or som shit...aside from that I definitely fucks with Cameo, The Time, Slave, Fatback, Confunkshun, Ohio Players, Gap Band...boy oh boy the list goes on and on right now im fuckin with more funk than hip hop lol...

I'm kind of the same. I wish Rap can go back to incorporating more FUNK. I don't neccessarily want to hear old samples, I just want to hear some good basslines that get you moving whether it be a synth bass or real guitar bass. Seems like Rap lacks proper basslines thesedays. Like you said, an 808 Kick can fill a beat, but it ain't enough IMO, musical wise.

This is exactly what I'm trying to get better at when I make beats. I want to get more funky with my basslines. It ain't easy though.

Hell yeah, but it closed a long time ago. He had some crazy records, now you can't find shit in O.C.!!! I got to go online and get shit from the midwest, down south, east coast or in europe or japan, but it's worth it!!! That's all I really listen to now a days, I still support chicano rap and West coast rap, but Old Funk is the heart of Orange County, well to the homies that know what's up!!!
