MF DOOM article from the new XXL
It's official. In case you hadn't already noticed, I'm flagrantly jocking MF DOOM like it's nobody's business. Why? Because Mr. Metal Face is doing Kool Keith better than Keith these days- pumping out product at a crazy rate while still somehow maintaining a quality control beyond anyone's expectations.
The international God of mystery's latest, Live From Planet X(Nature Sounds), is ostensibly a throwaway live recording doubling as a greatest-hits package. Yet even this offering yields some nice, if small, revelations: a) Departing from his laid-back cadence in the studio, Doom spits onstage like a cross between Ghostface and Ol'Dirty; b) Dude knows how to pace a set, balancing classics like "Doomsday" with his lost cameo from Prince Paul's "Name Dropping" whilst previewing Madvillainy and Mm... Food treats without missing a beat; and c) His audience is devoted - they luh his shit as much as yours truly. Plus, these Jansport-strapped young 'uns aint afraid to rap along with the words like it's the return of KMD's "Humrush." Apologies to all sick of hearing 'bout the Super Villain, but as long as he's bringing the heat, I'll be fanning the flame. Beliedat!
