Flames fell apart towards the end of the season. What a disappointment.
Fire your coach and lose a couple solid players, what more can you expect than a 9th or lower seed finish.

So the Sharks are probably going to play the Avs.
Anything less than a sweep is going to stir media doubts and questions.

San Jose Sharks Jed Ortmeyer nominated for NHL's Masterton Trophy

Right wing Jed Ortmeyer, who is on a strict medical regimen that enables him to continue his hockey career despite a life-threatening blood clotting disorder, has been nominated for the Masterton Trophy.

The Masterton is awarded annually to the NHL player "who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey."

Ortmeyer was chosen by the Bay Area chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. The league's writers now select among the 30 players nominated for the trophy, which will be handed out June 23.

At some point each day, Ortmeyer injects a blood thinner directly into his stomach to combat a hereditary disorder that can cause blood clots to form in his legs.

The process is tricky because the medication must be in his system when he's not on the ice and out of his system when he plays or practices.

Otherwise, a hard check or a high stick could cause fatal bleeding.

As a further precaution, Ortmeyer had mesh inserted into his upper legs to prevent clots from reaching his heart and lungs where they can prove to be fatal.

He first experienced clotting problems in 2001 while playing college hockey at Michigan when an injury required knee surgery. His most serious episode occurred in August 2006 when a clot reached his lungs and he was rushed to a hospital in severe pain.

Ortmeyer has nearly walked away from the game twice, most recently in 2008 when he played for

the Nashville Predators.

"There's probably been two times for sure that I said to myself or my family that it was over," Ortmeyer said Friday. "But after rehab and a little bit of rest, I decided that I felt I could still play."

Giving it one more shot, he played a year in the minors, then signed a one-year contract with the Sharks last summer. This season he has eight goals and 11 assists in 75 games.

"Corny as it is and clichéd as it is, I enjoy playing hockey, and they always say you never know when your last shift is going to be," Ortmeyer said in a Mercury News story on his condition that ran Nov. 10. "I wanted to go out on my terms and not be forced out by some medical issues."

# Cam Macintyre, the free-agent forward from Princeton who was signed by the Sharks last week, hopes to be able to make the leap from college hockey to the NHL next fall.

"It's a big jump and a lot of work to do," he said, "but it's my goal to play there next year."

Before that, however, he must continue to rehab a back injury that limited him to 24 games over the past two seasons. To that end, Macintyre is in San Jose this week, meeting with trainer Ray Tufts as well as strength and conditioning coordinator Mike Potenza.

Macintyre is 24 and had about 20 teams scouting his play last season. He said he narrowed the list to three and chose San Jose because "at the end of the day, it came down to the best gut feeling" after meetings with general manager Doug Wilson and other members of the staff.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Macintyre, who signed a one-year, entry level contract, had his best season at Princeton in 2007-08 when he had 13 goals and 31 points in 31 games.

# Dany Heatley and Ryane Clowe went directly from practice Friday to AT&T Park where they planned to watch the San Francisco Giants home opener against the Atlanta Braves.

That's just how the media and sports casters are.
Sharks don't draw a lot of attention to the rest of the country.
A loss to the Avs in the first game would be blown out of proportion...it would be sold as the biggest upset in the playoffs. If the Sharks won the first and lost the second it would be "the Avs making a strong comeback". Even if Colorado lost the first 2 and won the 3rd at home they would talk about "Avs defend on home turf". You guys get no credit at all.

I'll be shocked when ESPN or any major sports outlet praises the Sharks for anything.

And the worst is watching the NHL Network with all the Canadian faggots mispronouncing the Sharks players names. I was watching the recap of last nites game and all they showed were Coyotes highlights until Pavelski came and made his laser shot goal in the shootout.

Ryane Clowe (they say like it CLOUD, its said like LOW)

I heard them say Paveleski, its Pavelski.

ur right they get no love, yet when they lose its just what everyone expected.

Patrick Marleau has been voted as the Sharks' player of the year by the Bay Area media.
He potted a career-high 44 goals and finished the year with 83 points in 82 games. Marleau was stripped of his captaincy prior to the 2009-10 campaign and proved the controversial decision wasn't going to weigh on his mind. The Bay Area media also named Jason Demers as the team's rookie-of-the-year.

Nice, now we have home ice advantage until at least the finals. This is the only thing that matters now, fuck everything that has happened in the regular season. It's a new season, i can't wait.

let's fuck up the avs tho.

edit*** i thought we played the predators if detroit won?
Nah cuz Chicago would have won we would have been in 2nd place, meaning we'd play the 7th seed, which is nashville.
