Oh yeah... my brother became a Raider fan when they signed Warren Sapp because Sapp is his favorite player.... my cousin became a Heat fan when Shaq bounced from the Lakers to join the Heat. There are die hard fans that have been with their team for years... and then you have fans that will join a team because their favorite player plays for that team. I know you're looking for co-signers but nobody cares as much as you do about who's jock Tony is on.
