he aint worth his contract. if the news is right ,he dont like the defense blah blah shit then fuck that guy
I hear you but look at Moss. He grew up and has not been a problem in New England.

Alot has changed in Washington and will continue to change. They changed head coaches. That is Shanahan's team now.

Lets not forget, Washington has been a front office circus like Oakland for some time. I think we both are moving forward.

Why it’s OK to sign Mawae
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, June 19th, 2010 at 9:35 am in Oakland Raiders.

If the Raiders can sign a 31-year-old tackle hoping for one more good year to shore up the middle of the defensive line, why not a 39-year-old center for the middle of the offensive line?

Mawae made his eighth Pro Bowl last year, and even if some of that was on reputation, it’s hard to imagine him not giving Samson Satele competition for the starting job.

He’s also heavily involved in union politics, but that shouldn’t bother Al Davis, long a player’s owner.

And considering his comments about Washington wayward millionaire defensive tackle and former Tennessee teammate Albert Haynesworth on Sirius Satellite Radio, how could you not want Mawae in your locker room?

“You talk about someone putting a mask on and going in backwards to get his paycheck,” Mawae said. “I mean, if you don’t want to be there, don’t take the $21 million contract. How things turned out, it’s no surprise to guys that have played with him in Tennessee. You know, what do you say?

“I mean, you’re getting paid a ton of money to play less and you’re complaining about it. At the end of the day, it’s one thing to be a football player and get paid lots of money, but there’s a whole lot more to be said about being a man. You know, he’s a great player when he wants to be and he can be one of the best in the league and I’ve said that to him in his face before. But to this point he doesn’t want to do it on a consistent basis.

“At some point in time in the game, you know, you got to do what’s right for yourself and what’s right for you and your family. I think $32 million guaranteed in one year pretty much takes care of those issues. I think the other issues go beyond the football field.”

This should have been the guy hiking the ball to JaMarcus Russell.

While you want no part of Haynesworth, Mawae, still looking for a job, would be worth a look.

Or if you want to make things real interesting at the first padded practice, trade for one and sign the other.

Seymour sign tender
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, June 19th, 2010 at 11:40 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders announced on their Twitter account that defensive end Richard Seymour had signed his exclusive franchise tender, meaning all free agents are present and accounted for and should be to camp on time.

Next up for the Raiders is the process of getting rookies signed and into camp, something they’ve done extremely well with the lone exception of the JaMarcus Russell hold out. Last year’s top pick Darrius Heyward-Bey, missed just one practice while his agents were tying up loose ends.

In a year where restricted and unrestricted free agents aren’t signing tenders in the wake of an uncapped year and an ensuing collective bargaining agreement, the Raiders got all their RFAs in for offseason workouts and now will have Seymour in tow for Napa.

Seymour will make nearly $13 million on his tender but can still negotiate a long-term deal.

Tha Raiders should definitely bring in TO and at least give him a look....regardless of how irritating and ridiculous he is...this dude learned how to work hard and keep himself in top shape by playing with Jerry Rice and If he can come in and teach some of tha young receivers tha same thing that would only be to tha teams benefit....

I love the guys' talent, but TO isn't interested in teaching or mentoring no one but himself.

He'd be bad for the locker room.

i agree thats all very true. but lets see how oakland operates this year. because i think we need to gain some actual momentum as a franchise (front office/feild and locker room) this year before we start signing these kinda players again. lets get sum ground beneath our feet b4 we start rolling the dice again with disgruntled players.
we are finally pointed in the right direction i hate to see another player stagnate the lil progress we've made

I honestly think that's a media induced over exaggeration of what actually goes on....If you ask his teammates (except the QB's i guess) if he's a good teammate they all love him....and for one year at the end of his career with how desperate he is for a job right now I'm certain he could come in and play the good guy....

plus he doesn't have to mentor or teach....work ethic is contagious....he didn't mentor or teach in Dallas and Miles Austin has said he gives a lot of credit to TO for his work ethic...and If he's turns into a distraction....ship his ass out....he's not gonna sign more than a 1 yr deal anyway....not at his age....so It's really low risk...and its not like we're aiming for the super bowl this season anyway....so If it doesn't work out it's not like we lost any ground

LOL at Jamarcus at the Ward fight

Late-arriving Russell hears it from fans

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at 12:52 am in Oakland Raiders.

It couldn’t be, it shouldn’t be, but it was.

If on some level I thought the Andre Ward-Allan Green WBA super middleweight title fight would be a temporary diversion from all things Raider, I was wrong.

Unlike the last Ward fight, which took place during the season in November, there wasn’t a Raider to be found at or around ringside Saturday night at Oracle Arena.

Then, with Ward having his way with Green throughout to the thunderous cheers of the home crowd, came a familiar figure.

Walking right past the press area where I sat near the aisle with columnist Monte Poole, I looked up as Ward was doing his work and saw . . . JaMarcus Russell.

He was wearing a University of Alabama red leather jacket and a new red Alabama hat. He was wearing sunglasses. Maybe Russell thought nobody would recognize him, given that he went to LSU and that sunglasses aren’t necessary in an arena.

Boy, was he wrong.

The boos started growing as an usher helped Russell find his seats. A Raiders fans wearing a crisp, new Rolando McClain jersey (No. 55), stood up and began taunting Russell, asking him for his money back on his season tickets. He’ll have to get in line, given that Al Davis wants $9.55 million of money he paid out to Russell as part of a grievance.

Russell attended the Nov. 21 fight between Ward and Mikkel Kessler, and although he got booed there as well, he stuck around and posed with sympathetic fans.

After Ward completed his 12-round shutout of Green, Russell heard the hoots again as he departed, with many fans standing and waving their hands in derision. There were a handful, however, that greeted Russell warmly, and one that even gave him a hug.

It was at the same time surreal and predictable.

Surreal that Russell would show up in Oakland at all. Surely he knows he’s well atop the list as the most unpopular ex-Raider.

Predictable that when Russell did get to the fight, it was two-thirds over.

It brings to mind one of the first qualities wide receiver Louis Murphy identified about Bruce Gradkowski when he took over for Russell last season.

Gradkowski, Murphy said, was punctual.

A strange appearance to be sure, but a remarkable contrast. Ward is earnest, serious about his craft and does little to draw attention to himself. Punctual, too.

Russell? None of the above.

Not sure whether Russell having the nerve to walk into that environment is something to be admired or pitied.

Green must have been OK with it though. For a couple of minutes at least, fans were diverted from the beating being administered by Ward.

Training camp sessions are closed to the public....... Some of the players post up at the Red Hen restaurant/bar down the street from the Marriott. Last year Tommy Kelley and Lorenzo Neal were at the bar drinking and they got me in to watch a practice

Curry had some good season... didn't do shit in his last season on the Raiders though... I dunno wtf happened to him

Fargas still deserves a backup spot on a team IMO
