i'm not disagreein wit cha, BUT, whos gonna RELATE to tha kids?

i don't understand wut ur asking on tha second question homie. fold.
definitely not the teachers (there are few good ones that can, but those are rare), which is why i think its sad that the ppl who the youngsters do look up to, the rappers, are such a negative influence. the kids dont relate to the rappers so much because of what the rappers talk about, but simply because theyre on tv and the radio. so if the ppl on the tv and the radio decided to start promoting a more positive message, the kids would listen and take after it. if suddenly a movement came over hip hop where rappers kept talking about how tight it is to fart on other ppl, i guarantee you youd start seeing all these 14 year old kids farting on each other. thats just the power of the media

im just responding to the idea that parents should regulate what influences their children. im just saying parents could ban thier kids from listening to rappers who only rap about bitches, violence, drugs, and money (which is most of the mainstream), but thats just unrealistic. if its on tv and the radio, kids are going to listen to it and like it. ideally parents should be a bigger influence on their kids than celebrities, but thats just not the way things are

well the kids that are being so called idiots by your standards (still havent figured out how you can justify that statement, and why yur in a position to make the statement) are using their love for music to keep away from trouble, honestly, if making music is ALL about making it big to you, then you are fake, some people actually enjoy just makin music, might be a little hard to grasp for you, but ill throw it out there and let you try.
theres a reason why so much of hip hop today is garbage, and its because its not about the music anymore, its become about money. so many rappers are in it because its a way to become rich rather than a way to express their feelings through music

On a sidenote...

O'Reilly has gone completely out of his mind with delusions of power. He's now threatening callers to his show that if you swear or even mention Keith Olbermann's name that he will have FOX security contact your local police to come talk to you.

O'Reilly thinks he has his own police force now to do his bidding. That guy is comedy.

You can check out a clip of Olbermann's reponse here (second post down): http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/03.html#a7384

It's weird for sure.

I should have been clearer about the Keith Olbermann part. That may or may not be a reason for Bill to have the cops come to your house. I only said that because in the clip I posted the link to they play the phone call that caused all of this and all you hear is the guy say something like "I appreciate you taking my call. I like to listen to you during the day. I think Keith Olbermann..." and then Bill dumps the call and goes off about the police shit. And everyone knows Bill hates Keith Olbermann.

Regardless, even if you call and swear I can't see how Bill could possibly think that he has the power to have your local police show up at your door for swearing.

I agree with Camron that if he has more influence than parents that is a problem. I agree with T-Spoon that kids aren't going to look up to someone righteous but someone they can relate to. And I agree with Winslow that rap today is too comercialized and garbage. It isn't about the art anymore. It is about selling what's "hot." As much of a dick O' Reily is we need conservatives like him to keep the morality in america.

As for the whole rap issue being a negative influence, everything in the media is a negative influence. It all starts at home. The parents are the ones who are first and foremost responsible. I grew up in a two parent home but my dad didn't do shit in raising my brothers and I. He was just a guy with the title dad. We barely saw him and he didn't teach us shit. I might as well been a bastard. My mom though was one hell of a woman. No matter how tired she was after work she cooked us dinner and ate and talked with my brothers and I. She taught us values and morals. She let us watch R-rated movies and listen to all the gangster rap we wanted to as kids because she knew she taught us right and the outside influence wasn't going to get us. I only took the good out of rap not the negative. That 2pac "All eyez on me" cd helped me get through some hard times in high school. That's what made Pac great. The issues he discussed everyone could relate to no matter what religion, race, or social class.

On the other hand I seen middle to upper class kids throw their whole life away because they wanted to live the life of these rappers. I have a friend that is 24 from Vallejo that's tweeked out and is gang banging in Stockton now. He's been in and out of jail. I think he has 2 strikes. He was a good kid but his parents never spent time with him. He looked up to rappers when he was in high school. You can't blame rap music for ruining his life. It's just another thing in the media that has negative influence if you don't teach your kids morals or values.

all true, but the sad reality is that alota kids dont have good parents teaching good morals and values, so i just wish there were more guys like say blackalicious in the mainstream preaching a positive message

well you were only talking bout how it gets kids having crazy hopes, ima tell ya, i have no connections, and no intentions on being a rapper as a job, and making it, but rap has given me sumthing to do with my time, instead of just party aimlessly all the time and be a drain on society. your overlooking the fact that it gives kids a hobby and what not. so there for it seemed to me all u saw was the money aspect, like every kid that wants to be a rapper wants to make it big. some just rap for the love of it. and i never said you were fake, i said if you (generally speaking to everyone this applys to) think its all bout making it big, yur fake, i never accused you, but if the shoe fits, wear it.
