i know what you mean, but W.D.E.W.B.A.K. is a classic seattle album for its time (IMO). didnt really make any noise on the scene, but still deserves an honorable mention

My Input

1. Sir Mix-A-Lot
2. Seekum of Music Galore
3. Cool Nutz
4. Mr. D.O.G.
5. Boom Bap Project
6. No Good
7. OG Freeze
8. D-Sane
A Pioneer is someone who had something to add to the game. Someone who even changed the game to a certain degree and someone who helped other groups during their own struggle.

There were many names mentioned but many of those names didn't offer more than a hit single or nice CD. DMS - E-Dawg - Criminal Nation - Syko and Self Titld all had nice projects that will be remembered in NW Hip Hop history but this is the reasons why I say the 6 above are THE pioneers.
1. Mix got plaques, & Grammies need I say more. If he's not #1 on your list, you're a hater
2. Seekum opened the door for everyone to sell there CDs. Thomas, Dana Dame, & others that opened there own M.G. worked for this man. He showed them the ropes & he was one of the main contributors to KKBY 104.9fm before they went out of business. He made KUBE change their entire format after seeing that his format gave them serious competition. This man MUST be mentioned. He also sponsored many ads for artist's projects
3. Cool Nutz may not have been all that familiar to everyone in WA until the last 3-4 years but he is Oregon's Mix-A-Lot & has been acknowledge by Source years ago for his legendary yearly party, POH-HOP which always brings in 900+ in attendance. He has also been instrumental in countless NW careers and has been the main connection for Cali artists to the NW.
4. Mr. D.O.G. (myself) have set a new standard in advertisement and hustle. There is no rock I leave unturned. The 1st in WA to have a wrapped vehicle & the 1st in the region to have a double sided wrap on a vehicle. The 1st to have double-sided full color flats. The 1st in the region to be paid & accomodated to do an overseas show. I do frequent shows like Cool Nutz, hustle like No Good, and attack the net like D-Sane. And opened Kennel Insight E-Zine which interviewed and reviewed many artists & their projects.
5. Boom Bap hustles, promotes, & do plenty of shows nationwide packing the house. They doing their thing on KEXP supporting local music as well. They are & have been a known name from Eugene to Seattle for sometime now
6. NOONE hustles CDs harder than No Good. Any function that is expected to bring in 1,000+, you can guarantee that they are out there 30 mins. before the doors open until it's over or they're escorted off the premises. They've proven that you don't have to have all the shows to get out there & make the sells.
7. OG Freeze was doing this music thang for years & I can honestly say he was the first from T-town. He was around before the Kid Sensations, DMS, & more back when it was only vinyl & cassettes. And he proved that doing stretches of over 5 yrs. straight still couldn't stop him from completing his dreams. He has always been willing to help others get out there & hustle their CDs from fast food drive thrus to Community events, to fairs, etc. He also was the 1st in the region to make a documentary on NW Hip Hop for purchase which showcased over 20 different upcoming groups.
8. Noone in the NW has the internet on lock like D-Sane! His production has got the attention of several cats from the bay. And his work has helped several artists not to include being one of the few to break the barrier of regular rotation on KUBE. He was a mentor to Neema before the success came in and Byrdie's & Syko's albums says it all.

If Nasty Nes ain't on your list, somethins faulty.Am I the only one old enough to remember KFOX Fresh Tracks?1984?
There's so many Mix-a-lot cuts from back in the day that nobody mentions,well......Nes was the one spinnin'em.Mix-a-lots an O.G.,regardless of how he'll be remembered he was bangin out singles left an right in the mid-eighties.Remember the cut he did when he jacked the beat from the U.T.F.O.-Roxanne beef?Nes was the one spinnin it.I miss that show.....

KFOX-Learn about it!!

Nes did his thang to help Sir Mix-A-Lot. And yeah he bumped the cuts on KFXX. But other than helping Mix, what did he do for the whole NW? He got a magazine in Cali now and he's not helping the NW.
A pioneer goes beyond his job to rep the region in question. Nes was merely doing his job and that's the difference. I got love for Nes but JUST doing your job is nowhere near being a pioneer.
There is nothing faulty about the list. These people I named made people within & outside the region take a deeper look into the NW.

The term pioneer doesn't refer to someone that just put out a CD, it refers to someone that has made a mark in the game, and will be known for that. Some of you are just now starting to listen to NW hip-hop and don't know the history. Look at some of the names on the list above, and do a little research. These are some of the people that have paved the way for NW hip-hop to grow. Pioneer is a big word, and carries alot of weight. KNow your history pimp.

^^ Im mostly agreein with that part.

In my opinion, the pioneers is the ones with the blueprint and business plans in hand......not all the laborers, runnin around gettin paid from money off MAKING the building!!

No disrespect to the hip-hop laborers...but thats all they'll ever be: Blue-Collar Rappers. There's a new phrase for ya.

But anyone can make a building and some blueprints!!!!!

A pioneer is someone who breaks barriers and puts their city/area on tha map. Getting people from other parts of tha country interested in their shit.

Some cats just don't understand what the term pioneer means. There are alot of cats that have put blood, sweat, and tears into this NW shit, that I bet Tadou doesn't even know about. You are just some internet sucka that doesn't even understand what this shit is about. Get off the sidelines, and get involved in the game, and then you can talk all this shit. It gets old reading all of the nonsense that you post. This NW shit has been here for along time, and has been growing.

@ Purebread Hogg

If you read my list, you will see names of people that have actually made contributions to the game. These are people that I have known since NW hip-hop started bubbling. I'm sure there are a number of people on the list that you don't know, but that is why I said do your history. This shit is bigger then the NW artists that post on the Siccness.
