Doesn't really matter how far he'll go because the point really is that he is a solid fighter with tons of experience under his belt who's fought some of the best fighters in the world so its not that shocking he stunned Rigondeaux with a good shot. Obviously Rigondeaux can't afford to get hit like that against Donaire but Marroquin isn't some random bum.

Would you say the same about Vicente Escobedo or Rocky Juarez? They've fought great fighters but if they beat someone who is supposed to be a top flight fighter, it's an easy knock on the great fighter in that situation. Yes, he has a ton of experience at the amateur level but that doesn't mean he'll be a good pro so that doesn't give Rigo a pass. That was a title fight was it not? Him being rocked like that against Marroquin doesn't bode well for him with what Marroquin has shown thus far in his career. He doesn't have a big win on his resume. But to your credit, yes, he was moved along probably a little too quickly. Another fighter from the Dallas area that probably faced mostly soft competition in this region

Rigondeaux dominated Marroquin.though, lets be clear about that. Getting caught and hurt in a round by a good fighter with real punching power, it happens. Rigondeaux followed that round with a nasty combination that sent Marroquin to the canvas. So the only knock on Rigondeaux was he got hurt, but that happens to every one, hell Andre Ward was badly hurt against a no hoper not long before the super six.

Now like I said that probably makes me lean towarda a Donaire KO but it doesn't mean much of anything else. I doubt Mares or Vic etc could stop Rigondeaux, Donaire is a very special fighter though.

Yeah, it really doesn't hold that much weight. I just don't see that much skill from Marroquin, I guess that was my point even though I didn't articulate it well. I think Rigo could've dominated him even more but was really tentative, which he's shown to be in his pro career so it is what it is.

I would love to see Rigo fight Mares but it'll never happen

“I’m going to be the best at 122 lbs after this. They made his career easy. He fights retire(d) people. His last four opponents come on!” Rigondeaux said.

“The Asian one can’t see. Arce was an old lady at the time he fought him. If they gave me his last four opponents, I’ll beat them in one day,” he added.

Rigondeaux was of course referring to Nishioka of Japan who was knocked out by Donaire inside nine rounds last October in Carson, California.

“My pure talent is how I am going to beat him. I’m going to put it on him. He doesn’t know how to beat me. It’s going to be my little present for 2013. They’re underestimating me. I’m a better boxer than him and I hit just as hard.”

Donaire did not retaliate but his pregnant wife Rachel had something to say.

“I never had morning sickness but I am disgusted by the racism Rigo is showing towards Asians,” said Donaire’s wife on her Twitter account.

“I really hope @filipinoflash (Donaire) KO’s him cold. Then we’ll see what his vision is like...,” said one of the Filipino boxer’s followers on Twitter, Zarar Mohammed.

I m not sure Rigondeaux can take a clean shot from Donaire. But as far as skills go you cant name more than a handful of fighters in the sport more skilled than Rigondeaux.

Rigondeaux: This Fight Will
Prove That I'm The Best!

By Ryan Burton

Guillermo Rigondeaux is less than two weeks away from his
unification clash against Nonito Donaire. The fight takes place
in New York on April 13th and will be televised by HBO.

On this week's edition of BoxingScene Radio, the WBA super

champion told us that this by far the most

bantamweight

important fight of his career.

"We are training hard. We can't wait for fight night. This is the
biggest fight of my career and we will show that on April 13th,"
Rigondeaux stated.

The WBA super bantamweight champion insists that he isn't
worried about Donaire's size advantage, pointing out that he
has faced bigger fighters in the past and always found a way to

with his hand raised.

leave the ring

"His size won't be a problem. I have fought guys a lot taller
than him like Robert Marroquin. He was a lot taller than
Donaire. His size won't be a problem at all," Rigondeaux
confidently stated.

Rigondeaux has reunited with the trainer who led him to two
Olympic gold medals and to what many call the greatest career
in amateur boxing history.

The Cuban also said that they plan on unveiling new facets of
his game that haven't been seen yet and that he will prove that
he is the best fighter in the division.

"With Pedro Diaz its a guy I've worked with back in Cuba. He
knows how I fight. You are going to see different things from
me when I fight.

"This fight is very important for me. When I win that will show
that I am the best 122 pound fighter in the world," Rigondeaux
told us on Boxingscene Radio

Donaire is one of them and that is Rigondeaux problem here.

This will be a great fight. I don't know who I got yet, but I am leaning toward Donaire......

The more I think about it, I think Donaire taxes Rigo. I could be totally wrong obviously and anything can happen, but that is my hunch. I will say that Rigo is probably a lot more skilled than most of the guys that Donaire has faced lately but he's in another tier of fighter.

^^^ my thinking too.....

but the one thing that Donaire has for himself is experience that Rigo just doesn't have. Various different fighting styles, etc To combat that, Rigo is younger, quicker, etc

This will be a fun fight.

Can't wait.
