With 13 takeaways in five games, San Francisco is on pace to have 41 on the season. The 49ers are third in the NFL in causing turnovers. San Francisco is successful when it is able to force turnovers as a unit.

San Francisco has been equally stout against the run and the pass. The 49ers rank second in the NFL in passing defense, allowing only 187 yards per game to go along with six interceptions. San Francisco has allowed only 76 yards per game rushing, giving up a meager 3.4 yard average per rush. San Francisco has only given up one run for more than 20 yards.
THE PLUMMER DID IT
Cornerback Ahmed Plummer leads San Francisco with three interceptions. He recorded his ninth and 10th career interceptions against Chicago (9-7-03). Plummer also returned an interception for a 68-yard touchdown, the first of his career. He added his third interception against Detroit (10-5-03). Plummer’s highest interception total is seven in 2001.
SACKING LINEBACKERS
Julian Peterson, Derek Smith, Jeff Ulbrich and Jamie Winborn have done a tremendous job on putting pressure on the quarterback. Smith leads the team with 2.5 sacks, while Peterson and Winborn are tied for second with two sacks apiece. The unit has accounted for 43 percent of the team’s 15 sacks to begin the season. The last time a 49ers linebacking crew accounted for this many of the team’s sack was 1993 when LB Tim Harris, LB Bill Romanowski, LB Mike Walters, LB John Johnson and LB Martin Henderson accounted for 57 percent of the sack total (23.5 out of 41 sacks). The unit was buoyed by Harris’ 17 sacks, the third highest total in team history.
STREAKING 100
San Francisco has been one of the most dominant rushing teams over the past few seasons as evidenced by its rushing totals. San Francisco has rushed for over 100 yards in 18 of its last 19 regular season games. During this stretch, the 49ers have used the two-pronged attack of Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow. They have seven games with 150 or more yards during the streak.
A BUCK FIFTY
A successful rushing day usually guarantees a winning game for San Francisco. The 49ers have won 14 of the last 15 games when they have rushed for 150 yards or more. Against Chicago (9-7-03), San Francisco rushed for 162 yards on 42 carries. Since 1998, the 49ers have reached the 150 yard mark 28 times. Pittsburgh leads with 33 games. Denver is second with 33, Dallas and Oakland have 25.
