49ers waived DE/OLB Jermaine Cunningham.
Cunningham had yet to be active for the 49ers after signing on October 1. Cunningham appeared in 12 games for the Patriots last season, making 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He missed the final four games due to a PED suspension.
9ers activated DE Tank Carradine (ACL surgery) from the reserve/NFI list.
The No. 40 pick of April's draft, the 49ers selected Carradine five months into his recovery from a torn right ACL. Despite the injury, Carradine was still able to run a 4.93 40 in the run up to the draft, but the 49ers wisely opted to take things slow with his rehab. Speaking Tuesday, Harbaugh said the Niners would continue to be cautious with their rookie end. "He’s still coming along," Harbaugh said. "He’s getting the feel back from playing 11-on-11 football. But it’s coming." Carradine's snaps will be limited if he's active for Week 10.
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh wants to get RB LaMichael James re-involved on offense.
"We want to get that going," Harbaugh said. "He’s too good of a player not to be playing." James has been a healthy scratch each of the past three weeks, and expressed public displeasure at his role. The No. 61 overall pick of last year's draft, James has just 34 career carries. It sounds like James will be active when the 49ers come off their Week 9 bye, but he won't have more than a bit role on offense. That's if he has one at all.
