RB Frank Gore
On how it felt to get back on the field after getting hurt last season:
“I felt great. I was happy to be back out there with my teammates. Early on, before the game, I was nervous because I hadn’t played in a while, but it’s football. I told myself it’s football. God blessed me with the talent to do it and I want say thank you to him for letting me get an opportunity to come back out and have another chance to do something I love.”
On how he evaluates his performance in tonight’s game:
“I think running the ball I did well. I missed one block on a cut block. I know my running back coach [Tom Rathman] is going to get me on that one. But, I still have camp legs. On some of the runs, I felt like I could have done more, but I’m going to watch the film, go back to practice and keep trying to get better.”
CB Carlos Rogers
On his assessment of the team to this point:
“Defense wise, they’ve always been known to stop the run, so I think we came out against their first group and showed that we can continue to do that. I think we needed more help on the back end, just talking to the coaches and just watching them from a distance. Now that we’re all here together, we still have some players coming back, I think we can pick up on defense and help the offense out. We can get more turnovers. Offense wise, when you put a new offensive in, it always takes time to come around. They’ll be a little slower than the defense, but I think we have a good thing going on. We have another week of practice in the preseason and we’ll see where it goes. We’re still working and getting better and better every day.”
On the communication in the secondary:
“I think it’s real good. That’s one thing that coach put a lot of emphasis on communicating, especially when you’re away and you may not get the calls. The offense may hurry up and run a play and you have to have the calls. I think we did good for the first game, got a lot of jitters out and it’s back to just playing football now.”
