49ers after Olin Kreutz
Negotiations continue between the Bears and free-agent center Olin Kreutz, but the San Francisco 49ers have emerged as a serious threat to end the Pro Bowler's 13-year run in Chicago.
An NFL source said that the Niners sent Kreutz a contract proposal Wednesday night. Although the Bears and the center have talked numbers as well, the source said that Chicago's offer doesn't reflect how important he is to the team. For a squad that allowed a team-high 56 sacks, Kreutz was seen as a constant as the Bears try to rebuild the rest of the offensive line.

LOL can you guys never be pleased? When was the last time a 49ers GM made a run at top free agents? Let alone the free agent market. The 49ers front office are making moves. Seems everyone forgets that it was Baalke and the front office that got the most prized head coach in the market (Harbaugh) at the beginning of the year.
Harbaugh and Baalke know that this is a pass happy league and in order to excel you need a top notch secondary. Obviously they find this a more important hole in the defense than the pass rush now that Clements is cut. Plus Franklin was asking too much and really only played well last season because it was his contract year.
