IF they think they are set at WR after signing Bruce, they are tripping, you will be in for another season just like last year. The 49ers need playmakers!

*Prays for a big possession receiver with some speed that can jump for some balls*

*Prays for an impact O-lineman*

*Prays for help with the pass rush*

*Keeps fingers crossed*

^ if anything big wrs dont fit into Martz system, Desean Jackson would be a perfect fit, and theres a possibility that he may fall to us.

I think the niners WR core is pretty done with

Bruce, Djack (unless hes cut), Battle, Jason Hill, id expect battle to stay @ 3rd, Hill to move to 2nd, and Djack to be 4th wr.

With lelie spelling if he makes the team, this is gonna be a good competition @ WR this year....

Quentin Groves may fall to us in the 2nd round, that would be a nice pass rusher.

yeah lol

so on 4-5 Wr sets it could be

Jackson,Hill, Battle, Bruce

With Vernon Davis, Or Delanie Walker @ TE

Or Walker @ Hybrid FB

on double TE sets we could see

Walker, Battle, Bruce, Gore, Davis

I formation could have Walker @ Fullback, and throw Gore, Walker, Davis, Battle , Bruce out on passing downs.

thats the beauty of martz schemes, alotta times he throws 5 people out on passing downs, from different formations

Rice says it's OK for Bruce to wear No. 80

Jerry Rice has given the go-ahead for Isaac Bruce to wear his No. 80 with the 49ers. The club has not issued No. 80 since Rice's final season with 49ers in 2000, though it's not officially retired.

Rice, speaking on his SIRIUS NFL Radio show, "Late Hits," cited Steve Largent's willingness to allow Rice to wear No. 80 when he joined the Seahawks during the 2004 season. Rice played 11 games for the Seahawks.

"I have always respected Isaac Bruce," Rice said. "I don't know what is going to happen in that scenario but if it was left up to me I would say, 'Yeah.' For Steve Largent to do what he did for me he showed me a side of him where I just feel like I have to do the same thing. He set the standard. It would be left up to Isaac and myself to sit down and talk or if the 49ers decide to do something like that it is OK with me."

Bruce has not commented publicly on the subject.Bruce signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the 49ers last week. On a conference call to announce his signing, Bruce said he had not thought about what number he would wear. He said he answer that question in a couple weeks.

Bruce wore No. 80 with the Rams for 14 seasons after entering the league as a second-round draft pick out of Memphis. Bruce took the number, in part, because of his respect for Rice.

Bruce is third all-time in the NFL with 14,109 receiving yards. He ranks behind Rice (22,895) and Tim Brown (14,934).

49ers No. 80s through the years

1954: Jackson Brumfield, E

1956: Charles Smith, E

1958-65: Jerry Mertens, HB

1966-71, '73: Stan Hindman, DE

1973: Mike Bettiga, WR

1976: Steve Rivera, WR

1978: Terry LeCount, WR

1979-83: Eason Ramson, TE

1985-2000: Jerry Rice, WR

The 49ers have retired 10 uniform numbers. The team has not set a policy on retiring numbers, but it is possible that the club could run out of available jerseys. If that's the case, the 49ers could re-issue retired jerseys after a set amount of time. Here are the numbers, along with the player and seasons of service to the 49ers (year that the jersey was retired is in parenthesis):

12: John Brodie, 1957-73 (1973)

16: Joe Montana 1979-92 (2000)

34: Joe Perry 1948-60, '63 (1971)

37: Jimmy Johnson 1961-76 (1977)

39: Hugh McElhenny 1952-60 (1971)

42: Ronnie Lott 1981-90 (2003)

70: Charlie Krueger 1959-73 (1974)

73: Leo Nomellini 1950-63 (1971)

79: Bob St. Clair 1953-63 (2001)

87: Dwight Clark 1979-87 (1988)

Out of all the current numbers, Id like to see 8 (young),16(montana),42(lott),79 (st clair),80(rice), 87(clark), and 97 (BY)

i wouldnt mind too much having the other numbers put back into circulation.

Hardy is a huge no no for martz/sullivans system

hes big but not that fast, and his route running isnt too good...

Same With Malcolm Kelly...

The best WRs available in the draft that would fit perfectly in martz system would be,

Desean Jackson
Eddie Royal
Lavelle Hawkins
Dexter Jackson

^ prolly, it is good, but im hoping we dont grab a wr in the 1st, theres a few pretty good quality Wrs in the later rounds, we need to focus on improving pass rush, and another CB to replace Walt Harris, hes getting pretty old now,
