Signing Mike Vick is not going to help. There are far more 49er fans on 49erswebzone.com than there are here, and the overwhelming majority of them do not want Mike Vick on this team. You can get more of an overall idea of what the 49er fan base is thinking by looking there than here.

On top of that, THE NINERS ALREADY SAID THEY ARE NOT PURSUING VICK. So why bother continuing this discussion?
fatal, i think you may want to pay it a little more attention then you are giving it. it could very well happen. and i dont give 2 shits what any other niner fan has to say. im my own person and in my opinion vick would do well in this new environment. MY opinion gives 3 shits about 100,000 other opinions. you should be the same way. fuck how they feel, its about how i feel.

Reeves May Be The Best Choice, But He Is Not The Right Choice
Monday, January 26, 2009 at 11:02:11 PT | Recommend | Print | Share
By Oscar Aparicio

Reeves might be the best choice (now), but he is not the right choice

Let's face it - Scott Linehan pulled a number on us. He used his family as an excuse to decline a job he did not want. WHY he didn't want the job is perhaps the most important part of the situation, but it is also the matter on which we have the least information.

What we know is that Linehan used his family as an excuse because when he accepted the offensive coordinator position with the Detroit Lions, he told now head coach Jim Schwartz that he would be moving his family to Detroit. If familial stability, and we can infer, locational stability was really an issue he would not have moved his family.

Who knows. Maybe this is more a comment on the California school system than it is the 49ers.

Newly minted coach Mike Singletary is seeing some of the luster wear off of his seemingly gold plated office chair. He can't seem to find an offensive coordinator and he is going back...waaaaay back - to an NFL throwback in Dan Reeves.

Reeves was one of Nolan's mentors, and that mantle has apparently passed to Singletary. Singletary consulted Reeves, in addition to other NFL coaches, in his attempts to gain guidance in his coaching travails.

If hired, Reeves will do an okay job. His offense based on the running game, something Singletary covets. Reeves has experience and has been successful with other franchises.

However, Reeves offense is known as being very conservative. And, as Matt Maiocco reports, Reeves passing offense may lack structure causing potential problems for the 49ers air attack.

Given the options, Reeves may be the best option. He has proven he can be successful and he can assist in effectively mentoring Singletary on the job.

But is he the best option? Reeves is the best of the worst in this case. No one has wowed Singletary and the available coaches are dwindling. Inexperienced coaches simply will not do, and that seems to be all that's available. It is now February and the 49ers are intimately familiar with the dearth of coaches available after early February (see: Norv Turner).

It's the same problem that existed under Nolan, and it was the biggest knock on Singletary. A defensive coach, by definition, cannot completely ensure offensive consistency. Nolan couldn't do it and Singletary is seeing how difficult consistency can be first hand.

Reeves looks like the front runner, but he is a stop gap. Sure, Reeves will coach for 2, maybe three years. Who will succeed him? What offensive system will they run? Will the 49ers be coached more like a Dan Reeves team than a Singletary team? How much does Singletary know about game day offensive game planning? Will he always be beholden to an offensive coordinator?

These are all important questions and questions that should have been answered when Singletary was hired, not months into his tenure.

Singletary may be a great head coach, and he may do great things with the 49ers. At this point, though, the offensive coordinator search is creating more questions than answers.

Cross Chudzinski off the OC list
Cross Rob Chudzinski's name off the list of potential offensive coordinator candidates for the 49ers. Chudzinski - known around the league as "Chud" - today accepted a job as Norv Turner's tight ends/ass't head coach in San Diego. Chudzinski was the one of the first candidates to interview with Mike Singletary and Scot McCloughan for the 49ers' job. He also was a candidate for offensive coordinator of the Buccaneers, but obviously thought tight ends coach - his specialty - was his best bet. The 49ers have interviewed seven prospective OCs and three have dropped out:

Chudzinski: Took job with the Chargers
Scott Linehan: Took job with the Detroit Lions
Rick Dennison: Remained with the Denver Broncos

Here are the remaining contenders:

Clyde Christensen
Age: 52
Last/current job: Colts receivers coach
Pros:
* Been a component of a consistently excellent passing attack for the last eight seasons.
* Would mesh well with offensive line coach Chris Foerster; They worked together for eight seasons, first in Tampa Bay and later in Indianapolis.
Cons:
* Has not received a call-back since interviewing, which is not a good sign.
* Spent only one season, 2001 in Tampa, as an offensive coordinator.
* Does not come from a smash-mouth system; Indianapolis ranked 31st in rushing this past season.

Hue Jackson
Age: 43
Last/current job: Ravens quarterbacks coach
Pros:
* Has had an array of NFL coaching jobs, including two stints at offensive coordinator.
* Mentored rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, who led his team to the conference championship game this season.
* Would bring with him a proven quarterbacks coach; perhaps former Ravens and Falcons assistant Mike Johnson.
Cons:
* The two offenses he's directed, Washington's in 2003 and Atlanta's in 2007, didn't exactly flourish. Both finished 23rd overall.
* For all the praise he received this season, Flacco had a modest year for the Ravens.
* Jackson would certainly garner interest as a head coach with success in San Francisco.

Jeff Jagodzinski
Age 45
Last job: head coach at Boston College
Pros:
* Very creative; enjoys a great deal of respect around the league.
* Is well-versed in the West Coast offense.
* Has been an offensive-line coach, which ought to be attractive for a head coach who wants to run the ball.
* Would bring an experienced QBs coach, Steve Logan, with him.
Cons:
* Is ambitious and success with the 49ers would lead to head-coaching opportunities
* Not a lot of experience as an NFL offensive coordinator

Dan Reeves
Age 65
Current job: radio analyst
Pros:
* Reeves began coaching in the early 1970s and would provide a wealth of experience to a relatively inexperienced head coach.
* Reeves' patient and nurturing style would mesh well with the quarterbacks on the 49ers' roster.
* The 49ers would not have to worry about Reeves gunning for a head-coaching position.
Cons:
* Reeves hasn't been on the sidelines since the 2003 season; How much of the game has passed him by?
* It's unknown how recently Reeves called plays. The last time he was an offensive coordinator, Jimmy Carter was in the White House.
* Reeves dealt with heart-related issues while head coach of the Falcons

ESPN Mock Draft: 49ers take USC QB Sanchez

So I'm watching SportsCenter and they said in their mock draft that with the 10th overall pick the 49ers will pick USC quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Thoughts?

fatal, i think you may want to pay it a little more attention then you are giving it. it could very well happen.
I think you might want to read one of the official 49ers beat writer's blogs, they've already stated that the organization has said they are NOT pursuing Mike Vick. I don't remember if it was Matt Maiocco or Matt Barrows, but one of them wrote about it already. I think they know a little more than you and I since they are in constant contact with the team.

I never said you cared or should care what other Niner fans think. My response was to your comment about the Niners needing to put asses in the new stadium. It doesn't seem like the majority of Niner fans will be happy if the team signs Mike Vick. It's kinda hard to fill a stadium up when the fans don't like what you're doing as a team.

I don't care if you care about what other fans think, but the TEAM should. That's what I'm saying.

Damn...cross another potential OC(Reeves) off the list. I wasn't 100% behind the idea except for him possibly grooming Rathman into a potential OC, but I guess we don't have to worry about that anymore.
