I'd be scared to bank on Winston as my franchise QB, not as an athlete but as a person cuz of the way he acts...I know he's young and people will claim that he needs time to mature, which is true, but it's gonna take a lot of maturing to do and that will be hard being thrust into the NFL spotlight AND getting hella money. He's gotta study what happened with Johnny Football this past season because Jameis will be under the microscope just like Johnny was

Randall Cobb stays with the Packers on a $40 million deal

Randall Cobb could have almost certainly made more money elsewhere.

But he decided to stay home.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers wide receiver has agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal to stay in Green Bay.

Other teams, specifically the Raiders, had more money to spend and plenty of other reasons to add a receiver of Cobb’s caliber.

But Cobb elected to stay with the Packers, where he and Jordy Nelson can continue to catch plenty of passes from Aaron Rodgers rather than taking the money and running (as Greg Jennings did).

Running back Chris Johnson, who was with the New York Jets last season, reportedly was shot in Florida Sunday morning, according to Fox's Jay Glazer.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Johnson was in a car with friends when they were hit with gunfire. There were multiple casualties, but Johnson is expected to be OK.

Johnson, 29, is a free agent not expected back with the Jets next season after his option was not picked up by the team — a move that was made prior to this incident. He was a first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2008 and is the league's fifth-leading active rusher with 8,628 yards, having rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009.

Smart move on Cobb's end. Best fit for him at this point.

Andre Johnson released by Houston Texans

Andre Johnson and the Houston Texans are no more.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Monday that the Texans released Johnson, per a team source, ending his 12-year run in Houston. Johnson is now eligible to sign with any team.

The Texans granted Johnson the right to seek a trade after the receiver was told he'd have a greatly reduced role in the Texans' offense if he remained with the team in 2015. Johnson told the Houston Chronicle he "just laughed" when Texans coach Bill O'Brien explained last week that he shouldn't expect to catch more than about 40 passes in 2015.

Johnson still had two years and $21.5 million remaining on his deal, making a trade prohibitive. He is ranked 20th on Around The NFL's Top 101 Free Agents list.

Johnson ends his Texans career as the greatest offensive player in franchise history. The third overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Johnson is the team record holder in every relevant receiving category and stands a good chance of being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame when his playing days end.

Johnson will turn 34 in July and showed signs of regression last season. Despite finishing with 85 receptions, he averaged just 11 yards per catch and had three touchdowns despite a generous number of targets in the red zone.

Still, Johnson can bring value to a contender and should have no shortage of suitors on the open market. Johnson will always be remembered as a Texan, but he still has the juice to build his legacy somewhere else.

Brian Hartline agrees to deal with Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have made their first splash of free agency.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Monday that the Browns and wide receiver Brian Hartline have agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal, according to his agent. Hartline played his first six seasons with the Dolphins before being released last month.

Dustin Fox of WMMS-FM had the first report.

Hartline -- an Ohio native who played his college ball at Ohio State -- should slide into Cleveland's starting lineup as an outside receiver in a Josh Gordon-free offense. Hartline had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2012 and 2013, but fell off considerably last season, finishing with just 39 receptions for 474 yards and two touchdowns.

It's not a flashy signing by the Browns, but Hartline does give the offense a proven possession receiver who still should have some spring in his legs at 28.

Julius Thomas intends to sign with Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have hooked a big fish in free agency.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that tight end Julius Thomas intends to sign with the Jaguars on Tuesday, according to a source informed of his thinking.

Thomas spent his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos, growing into one of Peyton Manning's most reliable targets. Thomas has 24 touchdowns in the last two seasons and gives the Jaguars a much-needed offensive threat to pair with second-year quarterback Blake Bortles.

Around The NFL will have more on this shortly.

Buster Skrine to sign with Jets

Plagued last season by poor cornerback play, the New York Jets opened free agency Tuesday by signing former Cleveland Browns corner Buster Skrine, a league source confirmed.

Skrine, a two-year starter for the Browns, will receive a four-year, $25 million contract, including $13 million in guarantees, the source said.

The Jets still hope to make a big splash by signing free agent Darrelle Revis. Going into free agency, the Jets had no healthy starting corners. Former No. 1 pick Dee Milliner is recovering from Achilles' tendon surgery and likely won't be ready until training camp.

Skrine, 25, earned a lot of respect while with the Cleveland Browns because of the way he competes and the fact that he improved every season.

Though not a No. 1 corner, Skrine is a hard-working, dependable second or third corner.

Skrine broke up 49 passes in four season seasons, but had just four interceptions in 2014 while ranking second overall in penalties with 15 (11 accepted). That ranking was partly due to the increased emphasis on illegal contact, as four of the six most-penalized players in the league were cornerbacks.

Pro Football Focus reported teams completed 61.5 percent of the passes thrown Skrine's way, and that he was responsible for eight touchdowns.

Jets make Revis highest-paid CB

Two years after an ugly divorce, the New York Jets and Darrelle Revis are together again with what a source said Tuesday is a five-year, $70 million deal that will make him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

The Jets pulled off one of the biggest moves of the still-young offseason, stealing the All-Pro corner away from the New England Patriots on Tuesday night, his agents announced.

The blockbuster deal came five hours after Revis became a free agent. The Patriots declined to exercise a $20 million option for 2015, but they had retained exclusive negotiating rights until 4 p.m. ET.

It was a stunning blow to the Patriots, who lost their most accomplished defensive player -- a vital cog in their Super Bowl championship.

Many figured Revis had found a permanent home in New England and wouldn't want to change teams for the third straight season, but he was lured back to New York by Woody Johnson's money.

It's a bold move for the Jets, who are looking for credibility and four straight non-playoff seasons and a regime change.

Revis played for the Jets from 2007 to 2012, making three All-Pro teams and establishing himself as the best corner in the league. His final season in New York ended abruptly, as he tore his ACL in the first month.

He also made headlines off the field, mainly due to contract issues. He staged two holdouts, including a bitter dispute in 2010 that lasted until the first week of the regular season. He ended up signing what was termed a "Band-Aid" contract, a bridge to a long-term deal -- but that never happened.

After the 2012, the relationship between the two sides turned nasty, prompting new GM John Idzik -- with the blessing of Johnson -- to trade Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first- and fourth-round picks. The Jets used to first rounder to select defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson, one of their best players.

Revis signed a six-year, $96 million contract with the Bucs -- none of it guaranteed -- but he lasted only a year. He wasn't happy in Greg Schiano's zone-based defense, and he was released after one season, quickly signing with the Patriots.

At the time, Revis wanted to return to the Jets, according to sources, but his representatives didn't hear back from Idzik. That upset then-coach Rex Ryan, who lobbied hard for a Revis reunion.

Ryan and Idzik are gone. When the season ended, Johnson made it clear he was interested in Revis 2.0, telling reporters: "Darrelle is a great player. I'd love for Darrelle to come back."

The Patriots filed a tampering charge with the league; it's still pending.

Johnson's new regime, GM Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles, made Revis a priority. There was a need (no healthy, starting-caliber corners on the roster) and more than enough cap space (roughly $40 million at the start of free agency).

When the Patriots signed Revis in March 2014, the terms of the contract were two years for $32 million, although team president Jonathan Kraft later acknowledged that the 2015 season was a "placeholder."

The was in reference to Revis having a mammoth $25 million salary-cap charge for 2015, which the team was unlikely to absorb and thus leading the sides back to the negotiating table where Revis would either sign an extension or be released to become an unrestricted free agent.

The arrangement worked for both sides, as the Patriots benefited from Revis returning to top form two seasons after tearing his ACL and playing for the under-market rate of $12 million for the 2014 season.

Meanwhile, Revis re-established himself as arguably the game's top cornerback, raising his profile in going from a Tampa Bay team that ended up with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 draft to the Patriots.

Revis, who turns 30 on July 14, started every game for the Patriots in 2014 and was a valuable chess piece who often matched up against opponents' top receivers in the team's predominantly man coverage scheme. He finished with 14 passes defended in the regular season, and had two interceptions, although the statistics don't fully reflect his value because the football wasn't often coming his way.

A.J. Hawk, Bengals agree to deal

The Cincinnati Bengals have reached agreement on a contract with former Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Packers released Hawk, 31, in February, saving $3.5 million against the salary cap.

The move came less than a week after veteran Brad Jones was released. Hawk and Jones opened last season as the Packers' two starting inside linebackers. Coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL scouting combine that inside linebacker was their greatest need.

Hawk's release ended his nine-year run with the Packers. The fifth overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, he left as the franchise's career tackles leader with 1,118.

His best season was Green Bay's Super Bowl year of 2010, when he was selected to his only Pro Bowl.
