trust me the flat panel is dope, i have had numberous monitors, and the flat panel works best for me, it saves space, i can stare at it longer without getting a headache, which i frequenty got from a regular monitor, to me, i think they look alot more crisp, but that could also be cuz i got a new video card as well...and lets face it.....the vett gets em wet, it looks cool as fuck, but if they do go out, its expensive to replace, i can afford it so im not too worried about it....but i garuntee you, if you buy one, you will be happy with your purchase

well you need a video card for your computer to work, but no, mine is strictly for music, i have a laptop and an older desktop to play on, plus some programs have a minimum requirement for disply, not exactly sure what it is though, but yea, its gonna boil down to what you want, so i suggest going to look at some and then deciding, what works for some may not with others

you dont need a vid card if your mobo has on-board vga

q: why would anyone spend extra on a monitor?

a: so they can work for more than an hour without gettin a headache

the reason you would get a headache from a CRT is because your monitor uses the non-interlacing refresh technique

...thats one of the only advantages besides space an LCD has on a CRT -- no radiation like you get from a TV

LCD's by nature are not as sharp of a picture as a flat screen CRT, there is significantly less pixels and the response time of a LCD is signifcantly less than the refresh rate of a good CRT

that means it takes a good amount longer for the display to change... a good test is move your mouse around in a circle really fast on a CRT, then do it on a LCD and tell me which one was choppy and which was smooth

... jea my 420th post!

It depends on the individual, I can work a whole day on the computer and not get a headache. I've never had a headache from working on the computer. I think that has nothing to do with it at all. I think its more of if you have the money, why not? Either way your getting radiation, its everywhere around you. If your worried about damaging your vision, it would be cheaper in the long run to jsut use glasses that have protective lens. I wouldn't spend anymore than $300 for a computer monitor.

I want stress something... One part in a computer you DEFINATELY DO NOT want to be cheap with is the power supply! Power is one of the most crucial elements to a high-performance computer. If it's not rock solid, it's going to be a nightmare.

Make sure that the power supply you get is certified/approved for your CPU and outputs plenty more than you need.
