i dont think one can rule out the possibility of the iranian people toppling hte islamic government. if u remember how that government got there in the first place, there are a lot of parallels between that situation and this. and that revolution got them in a worse place than they were before, they were lied to, and theyve had to live with it quietly letting the emotions and anger build up till right NOW. this is a pissed off country with a majority under 30 years old, their lives ruined by the REMOVAL of their civil liberties and more importantly the right to have fun/party/drink/club etc (which sounds shallow but thats a big part of the PERSIAN culture, which to iranian people means more than ISLAMIC culture/law, which is also an important factor). letting someone be free and taking away those freedoms is a classic justification for the most extreme measures of revolution. john locke, social contract, etc. and finally theyve gotten off their asses and got together and blatantly defied the iron fist of the islamic republic, not to mention with "God" on their side, ie fighting for the side of good and justice. it does a lot to boost morale.
perhaps they may not topple the government, but for this young generation, ready for change, ready to let old leaders with old values die off, anything less than a revolution would be postponing the inevitable. for them to know for the first time that its possible to unite as one for a cause, to know that the country still belongs to them, i mean the stage has been set for dramatic social change. it may be immediate or it may be a slow transition, but either way the beginning is now.
