Nas' upcoming album has had a titled that has drawn more than enough attention to it. Nigger was the name of the prolific lyricist's ninth studio album - the key word is was.

According to EW.com, a Def Jam representative has confirmed that Nas will no longer be naming his upcoming project Nigger. Instead, Nasir Jones will opt for a less controversial title: Nas.

It seemed that Nas and Def Jam were comfortable with the eyebrow raising title. Island Def Jam Music Chair, L.A. Reid, even went so far as to say "Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him," in an interview last year.

But as the release draws near, Nas spoke to MTV about the increasing pressure to change the title.

"Everybody is trying to stop the title," Nas stated. "Record stores are gonna have a problem in this day and time selling a record with that title. Who knows what's gonna turn out and be on that title? Who knows what that title will be?"

It seems that the phrase "pressure busts pipes" has finally reared its head as the controversial title has effectively been changed.

No comment as of yet from Nas or Def Jam regarding the change as of press time.

Good its not the 90's no more. A album with that tittle wont be a smart move in this day and age it will backfire bc a mainstream artist cant really be a factor without radio and tv promo and with that tittle it wont happen. Its a cool tittle for a unsigned or underground rapper

I think the thread title should b changed to "THE POWERS THAT B change nas' album title." either that or "AMERICA STILL AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT RACISM"
Its the fore, not the latter. Now, they can stock this album in Wal-Mart's. At the end of the day, Nas is signed to one of the biggest record labels in the industry, and their #1 priority is to SELL RECORDS. Without outlets like Wal-Mart, that hinders their potential success.

. and the world is fulla bitches aka scary awkward ass afraid to offend and be offended pussy's

we'll see tho there's
hella variables on what he was tryinna convey with that message and if PUTTING THAT OUT AS THE ALBUM TITLE B4 THE RELEASE
AND THEN B4 RELEASING IT SAY
IT'S TOO CONTROVERSIAL TO BE TITLED THAT.
AND THE TITLED HAD TO BE CHANGED.
BUILDS PUBLICITY
AND MAKES MOTHAFUCKAS MORE INTRIGUED
SO THIS COULD JUS ALL BE A BIG FUCKIN MARKETING SCAM TO STIR UP CONVO AND GOOD CHEAP PROMO...

Not that I liked the original title but thats a bitch move IMO. He should have the integrity to stand behind his artistic vision and not sell out to the powers that be...

They probely werent gonna drop the album with that name. So its either a) change the name and sell alot or b) take it independent and take a potential hit.

You think Nas has that much motivation? At this point in his career, i bet he would rather have his label do all the shit needed to put an album...like promotion.

Say what you like about the original title but it was fueling discussion about racism and the N word. I also think people were making way too big a deal out of it. When NWA initially came out there was the same controversy over their name now nobody really gives a fuck. I stood by Nas when he named his album that because I thought he had a vision and he put thought into what he was doing. Now I see it was all a publicity stunt to drum up attention for his album, fuck him...

I dont think his album was covering the actual history of racism. I think it was more of his way saying Im black and your white dont you wish you was black.

And I bet he recorded a totally different album then that tracklisting on the net, It was probaly a fake tracklisting to get some buzz generating. Bc he said himself not that long ago that he was working on a summertime album
