Not another MP3 Freak! Please stop the moochers from mooching. If you want to hand out MP3's, so a person knows what it sound like...that's coo', but don't give them the whole album.

I'm sorry folks. I was about to go way deep into this MP3 Freak stuff. I will sum it up and say that it's fucking up the game for everybody (The Artists, Real Collectors and etc. Heck even price and demand). Too many mooches who's fucking up New and Old releases.

It's just a though/My Opinion:cool:
this is a response to Sincere's post about "Moochers" and "MP3 Freaks". i thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion about this topic because ive always wondered what everybody on here thought about MP3's being available online.
---------------------
im pretty sure there's a good handful of "MP3 Freaks" here on this site and some of them are well respected sellers/collectors (some of them even selling tape-only conversions on ebay a few years back). nobody really cant control this type of situation because there's ALWAYS going to be that one person from somewhere around the world who can post an album online. i admit i post MP3's of older albums (using imeem) on my blog but most of the time i try not to post the WHOLE album.

personally, i havent met ONE old school artist who is against the whole MP3 situation...hell, some of them do it themselves and send some of their old albums through email when asked. if it's a NEW release then thats a whole different situation. since i started my blog, ive been contacted by L.O.L. and Lil G about the MP3's ive posted on my site. they both THANKED me for posting the MP3's online and they both said that they appreciate the fact that people are still interested in their old albums.

as a seller, i agree that it fucks up the prices on some rare cds, but in some cases it might make a certain cd even more valuable. some "real collectors" might not know about a certain album until he/she listens to the MP3's online...and when the original pops up on eBay they will still spend big money on it.

as a collector, i use to get mad about it a LOOONG time ago. i mean cmon...you really cant get mad unless its an album where the artist only released 2 copies. so if youre gonna label yourself as a "collector" then you have to understand that there are "music fans" out there who dont have the same mentality of a collector but may have the same rare cds you have without even knowing that they are rare. so back to what i said earlier...if you have 1 of 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 it shouldnt even matter if MP3's pop up online, just be glad that YOU have an original copy. ALSO, as a "real collector" the price of a cd shouldnt even matter...the only things that SHOULD matter are the music on the cd, the artwork and sometimes the condition.

well, thats my thought/opinion on the whole MP3 situation.
What do the rest of you guys think about MP3's being available online? Discuss...

I've abandoned the whole MP-3 "scene" as I feel that I've already got all the necessary albums there is. The rest would just fill my HD for nothing. Seriously, of all "rare oop bomb g-funk" shit that pops up how many percent is actually even average? I used to search the same stuff everyone else did, and when I "finally" got it by trading with some French soulseeker, most of the time I didn't even listen to it. That's bullshit!

I've always bought OG albums too. Sometimes I bought stuff that wasn't available as MP-3. When it leaked, I was naturally pissed. That's because usually this unknown shit has remained unknown because it's WACK. And I can't get a good price outta wack CD (unless the buyer is Japanese).

Now I don't really give a fuck what's available on blogs, slsk etc. Everytime I log onto Soulseek people are immediately giving me their want-lists or asking if I got some 'dope stuff'. I tell 'em "I consider Spice 1 pretty dope, you got that?" I only buy albums I know to be good ones, or if I'm seriously interested in hearing em.

Black Gangster - I Got A Gun But No Bullets (ultra rare oop g-funk rap)....buy it now 9999$

i agree with buddhist, a LOT of these rare albums sound like garbage to me. so in a way it can also kill the price of a cd if they find mp3's of something they'd been searching for forever and find out it sucks so they don't want it no more. i got a blog where i just post a song or two from the cd so ppl can get a feel for what they sound like. i think the real cd collectors will want the OG cd even if they can get the mp3's, but i think there are less collectors nowadays since everything is going digital. as a seller, i've seen my sales take a huge steaming dump lately but i don't think its cause ppl are sharing mp3s, i think there's just less collectors.

I buy every album I like. If I did down load the album and I liked it and wanted it I would buy it for 5,10, 1000 bucks. I dont give a rat what value it brings down. In a case like this who is it hurting? The cd is so hard to find, and the artist already made his profit when the cd was sold the first time. This demand stuff dont play with me its only important because of the secondary market. I down load everything before I buy it, its a good practice to do so. If I am going to pay for a product I better be damn sure what I am getting. I have over 5,000 cds and probly 750,000 mp3s. I guess to each his own but thats how I do it.

...my Quote

Well, before my quote is taken out of context. Let me give my view.

Everybody downloads MP3's, including myself, so I don't have a problem with anybody doing so. This is not a Rare, Out Of Print Thing, New or Old. My problem is with the people who I call, "MP3 Freaks". I call them this because they never buy shit and constantly beg for people to up or re-up and MP3 rip. Matter of fact I know some people who the the vast majority of their collection is MP3 rips. We've all seen this type of person before. This person will even offer to swap/trade MP3 rips. If this applies to you...you're a "MP3 Freak/Moocher/Leach". Now I have a few friends who have shared their MP3's with me, so I could know if a CD was good or not. This way I can decide if I want it or not. Then I have a whole lot of CD's that are still sealed. Lord knows that I don't like to open sealed copies, unless I have a extra copy to open. If I do, I rip it to my itunes. If not it stay's sealed. Well, due to this I do look for MP3's of those albums. I may get the MP3 from a friend or just do a search on the internet.

Like I said I don't have a problem with MP3 downloading, I just have problems with people who only want a rip and all that they do is ask for rips on this website and that website.

Believe me. I have so many people who write me and ask and/or sometimes beg me to rip them this album, I'll pay you to rip that album and etc. If you find yourself doing that...You may be a "MP3 Freak", because you're acting like a groupie. That's my problem. Not Rare, Not Out Of Print, Not New, Not Old, but people who beg or just simply live off of MP3's. These types aren't the "Real Collectors" in my opinion. It has nothing to do with who has the most expensive, rarest and etc. A "Real Collector" cares about good quality music and if it's good quality music he would rather have the CD and buy the CD over Mooching every MP3 of these supposedly Rare CD's. As stated above by somebody else...Most of these Rare CD's are garbage. A prime example of that is that Mossberg CD, but hey you might like it. In my opinion it sucks and I'm glad that my peoples share a few tracks off it with me. Most of these G-Funk rappers can't even rap...truth be told. They just have a nice beat.

You might say that this "MP3 Freak" is just an avid listener who just loves music, but I disagree. An avid listener doesn't go on a quest to get MP3's by any means necessary. An avid listener doesn't take the time to find out how to and then record low quality music files from Youtube videos or other media forms. Yes, folks...that's right I've seen some of these freaks do crazy shit like that. They even record off of artists myspace pages. An avid listener is just happy to come up on a burnt CD, MP3 or whatever and he/she keeps it moving. The avid listener doesn't turn into a MP3 Music stalker, who will get a song with any means.

This is why I say to only post a song or 2, because that's all that anybody really needs to see if they like the sound of an album or not. A Collector would rather have a hard copy and a avid listener really ain't trippin, because their just happy to hear that old song again. Well, the "MP3 Freak", that's a different story.

Hey, I might still be wrong. I might even change my mind too one day, but that's what I feel today.

If you're a Mooch, then you're a mooch. I don't care for moochers. That's it.

that one applies to part of my view....I've spent up to 150 bucks for 1 CD before just to have that one CD and never would have done so if I hadn't heard it first.....plus i aint got millions of dollars to bu all these CDs, imo mp3s are one of the greatest inventions ever.....On any given i probably am listening to music for 12 hours at least....

yup, thats my point 2 songs dont make an album worth it too me. I need to hear the whole thing before I pay for it. I have plenty of albums that have 2 tite tracks and the rest is trash. No offense to any of the sellers on here but Im not gonna buy shit unless I hear it.

I used to download a couple of albums and tracks every now and then but I quit after I realized I wasn't listening to it. Same thing about CDRs given to me by friends. I ain't listening to it. I gotta have the real stuff, real printed covers and the official CD to fully enjoy listening. mp3s are only downloaded if I am uncertain whether I should buy an OOP CD or not. CDs that are easy to find are listed with snippets anyway

i remember back in 2003-2005 when Grim had his auctions up , people even didnt know how to ripp cds lol but at this time there wasnt one auction on ebay with a mp3 flash player online. and you know what , that was fuckin exciting. that whole underground rap cd thang was gettin way too deep in that time , i was always excited bout all those dope lookin covers and mysterious unknown cds that fly out for a lot of dollas.i remember spent 51$ on a Moe-Man cd on Grims auction because i was hopin its as dope as the cover was lookin like and yea it was.
but nowadays as most ppl gettin older and more experienced bout all the rap classics , its just that we go on diggin deep but most of the stuff isnt that tight which doesnt mean evrything is wacker than the classics.theres sum real insane shit that wasnt even on ebay yet ,seriously ! sum of the hardest classics were only a few times online check cds like 1 way anc , Raw society , GAngsta PAck , Lil whit , Creep , Ice Burg and so on.so yea to get to the point.i defintily give serious old customers the whole mp3 album so they can check it out and can think about it if they wanna spend sum money on it.but on the other hand i wont give out even one mp3 song to any o those "mp3 freaks" just for gettin their daily dose, they re fuckin zombies without any function in this game.thats a waste of time plus many people payin sum big paper for special cds so i respect that they dont wanna see the mp3s online anywhere.

I used to collect a little bit. Prices have gone up and I don't have the funds to spend loot on the shit I really want. I mainly listen to the classic shit too (late 80's - early 2000's). That's all I care about. So...

When it comes to the old rare shit...for someone like me, who ain't rich, downloading MP3s is pretty damn convient (I ain't payin for them, though). And lately I'v been very picky when it comes to the quality (encoding, bite rate, etc.). But I'll usually take what I can get if nothing better is available. On the other hand, if I can come across a good deal on an OG CD release, I'll go for it...and add it to my collection. That's just me, though.

Now...when it comes to all the newer shit, I'm down to spend some money, but I gotta peep it out first. I haven't spent any skrill on a recent releases in a while, due to most of it being garbage. So if I can't peep it, then I'll download it somewhere and check it out. And if I like it, I'll go out and buy the shit brand new.

I'll also say this. I don't have any problems hooking people up with full CDs that I've personally ripped. I enjoy sharing good shit, in high quality, with those who need it or never heard it. I honestly don't see the harm in it.

The way I see it...there's two type of collectors out there. [1] The person who spends hella loot on a CD to add to his/her collection...because he/she loves the music. And [2] the person who spends hella loot on a CD because he/she thinks it'll be worth more later on, thinking they'll be able to profit big time in the future. The [2]'s is straight assholes and can suck a dick in Hell.

EDIT: Do I prefer the sound of the original CD or an MP3? Well, that's a tough one, but right now I'm gonna say an MP3. An MP3 ripped and encoded by myself with my ripping program in a high quality encoding setting is where it's at for me. Not only do I think it sounds better than the original, but I also don't have to play my originals in my car/CD players, risking them getting scratched up. All of my CDs in my collection are on my computer, and the originals are put away.

Didnt say they were all rap, and I really dont care if you doubt me. I have 150 dvds of mp3s and 3 hard drives full as well. I have 20 boxs of cds with about 200-250 cds in each box do the math pal, I have been collecting for 18 years. Thats not the point anyway, dont throw jabs when they are not warrented.

I think he was talking to westbanklover not to you.

LOL at the ones who are saying it's taking down the price of "ultra rare og release cds.

Personnally I didn't have any mp3s until 2-3 years ago, especially when the prices of the cds started to skyrocket. Not everyone is able to pay 150$ for a CD especially when the average of these "ultra rare og releases" aren't that good music.

I don't understand what your problem is, everyone does what he wants with his life. If people prefer mp3 or real collecting it's their problem. The thing is that lot of "mp3 freaks" like you call them are probably more interested in the music than some of the collectors......

WORD!!!!!!!!

I've been tryin to get this certain tape off from someone who has it. I asked if he has listened or even touched it in last few months and he says "no, but that's the collectors way"

So did I understand him correctly: true collector buys every shit possible and adds it to his collection but never actually listens to it. All that matters is that he knows it's there and he owns it.
