INDEPENDENCE, MO (KCTV) -
An Independence mother of five faces multiple felony counts following an attack on a neighbor that police say put the suspect's children in danger.
Patrice Blackmon first met Marama Wilson when Wilson moved into the Hawthorne Place Apartments in June.
"When we first met, she was really sweet," Blackmon said.
Within a month or two, however, their conversations became less casual. Blackmon said their relationship remained positive, but the conversations almost always included reference to demons and the devil.
"She would just be like, 'Mmm, mmm, the devil is coming.' Then she said, 'You smell the air out here? It smell like death. Somebody about to die.'"
Blackmon said she grew leery but wanted to be supportive. She also worried about Wilson's five kids, aged 6 and younger.
"I thought maybe she's a little depressed," Blackmon explained. "People get that way sometimes."
She never imagined it would get how it did on Nov. 23. It was 3 p.m. She left the door unlocked before taking a quick nap next to her 3-year-old son.
"I get woken up with 'You put the demons in me,'" said Blackmon. "I look up and she is coming at me with a champagne glass."
That lead to a tussle that had both women swinging. The five counts of child endangerment against Wilson stemmed from what came next.
Two witnesses told police that Wilson got into her van and, with all five of her children in that van, began ramming Blackmon's SUV.
One witness counted eight times. Another counted nine. Both described Wilson circling the lot, onto sidewalks and into the grass, to get at the SUV from various angles.
Wilson's children, 7-month-old twins, a 2-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 6-year-old were placed in the custody of their aunt.
Besides the five counts of child endangerment, Wilson is also charged with assault and burglary, for entering the home without permission. Her bond was set at $10,000 with a condition that she have no contact with Blackmon and have contact with her children "only upon approval of Division of Family Services mental health screenings."
