Brian Bowles among eight fighters released from the UFC
Former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles highlights the list of recent UFC cuts.
Sources close to the situation told MMAFighting.com that the UFC has released
Bowles,
Stanislav Nedkov,
Andy Ogle,
Akira Corassani,
Humberto Brown,
Rodolfo Rubio,
Juan Puig and
Tim Gorman from their contracts.
Bowles (10-3) tested positive for elevated testosterone levels in his last UFC bout, a TKO loss to George Roop in 2013, and leaves the promotion after going 2-2 inside the Octagon. Bowles, who shocked the world with a first-round knockout victory over Miguel Torres in 2009, was arrested on drug charges in January.
Stanislav Nedkov (12-2, 1 no-contest) ends his UFC run after going winless in the past three bouts. The Bulgarian fighter impressed in his UFC debut in 2011, finishing Luiz Cane in the first round in Brazil, but then suffered stoppage losses to Thiago Silva (later overturned to a no-contest when Silva failed a drug test), Tom Watson and Nikita Krylov.
Andy Ogle (9-6) hasn’t won a fight since a unanimous decision over Josh Grispi on February 2013. Since that night, the British featherweight lost to Cole Miller, Charles Oliveira, Maximo Blanco and Makwan Amirkhani.
A member of the season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, Akira Corassani (12-6, 1 no-contest), who started his UFC career 3-0 over Andy Ogle, Robbie Peralta and Maximo Blanco, lost three straight in 2014 and 2015, finished by Dustin Poirier, Max Holloway and Sam Sicilia.
TUF veterans Humberto Brown (4-5), Rodolfo Rubio (12-7) and Tim Gorman (9-4) compiled a combined record of 0-4 in the UFC. Juan Maunel Puig (11-4) leaves the promotion after back-to-back losses to Adriano Martins and Doo Ho Choi.
