Sorry for the above rant, normally I like to converse and debate rather than rant and be childish, but I just am not a fan of Bisping and thought it was crazy to think Anderson was being protected from him. Don't get me wrong though. Bisping is a good fighter, but in my honest opinion the dude is nothing more than a gate keeper at this point. So far he's decent at holding the gate against non top 15 opponents, but he's never stepped up to the plate when given the opportunity for a big fight. Here's a list of his big fights:

Rashad Evans: Close fight, not as close as the scorecards showed though, Rashad sent him packing to 185
Dan Henderson: Bisping had the worst game plan ever when he kept circling towards Henderson's right hand
Wanderlei Silva: Wanderlei dominated that fight and even rocked Bisping
Chael Sonnen: The closest Bisping has come to doing anything in a big fight, but he definitely wasn't robbed, that fight could have gone either way, but Bisping couldn't even do that little extra to sway a decision from Chael Sonnen, do you really think he has anything for Anderson Silva?

Now lets look at Bisping's top big wins, he literally has ZERO top 10 wins, honestly I don't think he even has a top 15 win on his resume':

Matt Hammill: Split decision win that is often called one of the biggest robberies in UFC history
Chris Leben: Decision win in a very boring fight that a ton of people also called a robbery
Yoshihiro Akiyama: Decision win in Bisping's only non controversial big win, great fight

Now it took all these years for Bisping to finally hit top 10 and be on the cusp of a title shot and he is flat out ducking someone that is ranked HIGHER than him. How does that look when you want a title shot but don't want to fight someone who is higher ranked than you, but instead choose to fight someone who isn't even ranked?

Junior dos Santos Looking to KO Overeem at UFC 146, Says Jiu-Jitsu is ‘Plan B’

The fight card for UFC 146 features several Brazilians in high-profile matchups, but none are more high-stakes than Junior dos Santos’ UFC heavyweight title defense against former Strikeforce titleholder Alistair Overeem.

Since joining the UFC in 2008, dos Santos has conquered a number of talented foes, including Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel Gonzaga and, most recently, ex-champ Cain Velasquez. While “Cigano” took on legendary striker Mirko Filipovic in 2009, the Brazilian has never faced a world-class kickboxer in his prime. That is exactly the task he faces with his next bout against Overeem, a grand prix champion in the world’s most prestigious standup event, K-1.

“I think it’s the ultimate test for my striking,” said dos Santos, who has publicly contemplated an Olympic boxing bid for 2016. “It’s still the biggest challenge. He was a K-1 champion, which is the greatest striking event in the world. He’s a very strong guy, good, but I trust in myself a lot and I try for the knockout in all of my fights. Regardless of him being a striker or not, I’m going for the knockout.”

Of course, like any good champion, dos Santos has a backup plan to surprise the Dutchman.

“Jiu-jitsu can be Plan B. I’m an MMA fighter, training in everything,” dos Santos said. “I’m well prepared to fight, whether standing or on the ground, and if I find it necessary to take it to the ground, it will happen.”

Despite training alongside ground wizards the Nogueira brothers, grappling hasn’t been easy for dos Santos. After taking the belt from Velasquez in November, Cigano underwent knee surgery, which delayed his return to jiu-jitsu training. Now, however, all is well and the champ expect to be at full strength when he takes on Overeem at the end of May.

“The preparation has already begun. I’m training hard for the fight, feeling well. Now is the time to get strong, to then endure the hard training and get to 100 percent for the fight,” explained dos Santos.

Recently, dos Santos received some praise from an unlikely source. Middleweight contender Chael Sonnen, known for his controversial comments about Brazilians, named the heavyweight as a Brazilian who he admires in MMA.

“I was surprised, because he speaks ill of Brazilians and now names me as a favorite,” said dos Santos. “For me, it’s strategy, and if it’s working, I think he really has to do it. His focus is Anderson [Silva], but if I serve as inspiration or anything else, if I help him with anything, good for him and thanks for appreciating my work.”
Junior dos Santos Looking to KO Overeem at UFC 146, Says Jiu-Jitsu is ‘Plan B’

Dos Santos’ teammate, heavyweight Antonio Silva, recently signed with the UFC and will also compete at UFC 146 against Roy Nelson. For now, the defending champ expects “Bigfoot” to be a sort of “guardian of the title shot,” even while acknowledging that the training partners’ paths may cross in the future.

“We will adapt to how things will be, but the important thing is to support each other.”

pretty sure smigg trolled ya lol. what i dont get is you say all this but are upset he's fightin boesch? if he's not as good as people think then him fighting tim is probably best right? also Tim isnt too bad himself, he's making a name for himself and is undefeated since dropping down to MW so it isnt like he's facing a slouch. i'm not a fan of bisping by any means but i dont disagree with the fight he chose.

I ain't upset with the fight at all breh, i'm making fun of Bisping for ducking a higher ranking Mark Munoz when he's asking for a title shot to fight somebody that's barely top 15 by saying "Mark Munoz isn't a dangerous opponent". lol then why is Mark Munoz ranked higher than you Mike?

Like I said a few posts ago I ain't taking anything away from Tim Boetsch, but Michael Bisping is a punk for begging for title shots non stop but turning down a top 5 fight for a barely top 15 fight. Bisping proved his gatekeeper status and I hope Boetsch knocks his ass out and takes Bisping's spot in the top 10.

Following surprise fight booking, Rich Franklin hoping for UFC Cinderella story

Rich Franklin had wowed doctors with the speed of his recovery from shoulder surgery and recently returned to near-full speed training in the gym.

All the while, he kept the UFC updated on his progress and talked about a return to the cage. But even he was surprised at the speed with which he went from disabled to active after his doctor cleared him this past Friday.

"I'm sitting there, my phone goes off on Sunday night and I found out via Twitter that my fight was signed," Franklin (28-6 MMA, 13-5 UFC) today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio).

The fight, in this case, is a middleweight bout against Cung Le (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC 148, which takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena and airs live on pay-per-view. (Preliminary-card fights air on FX.)

Franklin admits that a run at the belt is a nice idea, but more importantly, the fight with Le promises an entertaining fight. Since losing the UFC title to Anderson Silva six years ago and losing a rematch, he's more concerned with pleasing the fans than adding to career achievements.

"The great Cinderella story would be for me to drop to 185 and make a run for the title," he said. "I can't say I haven't thought about that. But I don't want to put the carriage before the horse. I have a tough opponent in front of me, and I really need to focus on that fight first and get some momentum going."

Franklin has already started preparations for his first trip to middleweight in four years. Although he competed twice in catchweight bouts at 195 pounds, he said he won't have time to get acclimated to 185 with a test cut. So he's already started attacking his diet and workout regimen.

"This is not an easy fight," he said. "He's southpaw, and I've historically had problems with southpaws. So this will be a good challenge for me to come back at 185."

Le migrated to the UFC this past November at UFC 139 and was stopped by Wanderlei Silva by second-round TKO. The former Strikeforce middleweight champ has taken long breaks from the sport as his career in action movies has blossomed in recent years. Prior to Silva, he spent 17 months away from fighting.

Franklin can relate to layoffs. He's grappled with several injuries as the result of his fights including an eye surgery to address a severely scratched cornea suffered in a meeting with Dan Henderson at UFC 93. His most recent layoff, however, came during the off-season just after he was scheduled to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 133 and Nogueira withdrew due to injury (he declined to fight Alexander Gustafsson on short notice). An accident dislocated his shoulder, which required the surgery he underwent six months ago.

"I suffered a torn labrum from a shoulder dislocation," Franklin wrote on his official website, RichFranklin.com. "While in the shoulder, the doctor did some minor repair to the rotator cuff as well."

As part of his post-surgery recovery, Franklin was required to sleep upright for four weeks.

"(It was) just a repetitive process of you getting a crappy night's sleep over and over again," he said.

But Franklin doesn't feel that this layoff will leave him rusty come July. He has, in fact, been preparing for his return for several months.

"As the shoulder gets better, you're given more permission of things you're allowed to do," he said. "So even though I had the surgery in October, I was already doing some stuff in December."

Even if he is victorious against Le, Franklin expects to fight at least one or two more opponents before he's in consideration for the title.

But right now, he's got one task ahead. So what if he was the last to know about it.

"It's the speed of the Internet now," Franklin said. "You can't beat it."

Bellator boss stands behind Santos, hopes for Konrad-Prindle 'within weeks'

Bellator Fighting Championships' CEO Bjorn Rebney is understandably disappointed in Thiago Santos (10-1 MMA, 2-0 BFC).

That said, he's not giving up on "Big Monster" just yet.

One day after Santos missed weight for his Bellator 62 headlining bout, Rebney said he's not giving up on the Brazilian just yet. In fact, Rebney wants to help Santos better his nutrition program and reach his full potential.

"We're upset, and it is unprofessional," Rebney told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "But he's got unlimited potential. He's young as can be. He comes from a really poor, really underdeveloped area. He's not an American wrestler. He doesn't have any kind of history of cutting weight regularly. Just having talked to the kid and his folks last week, he knows nothing about diet – like an inadequacy of knowledge on diet that was just shocking to me for a professional athlete.

"I was looking at him, and he's a nice kid. He's kind of a big teddy bear of a guy, but you looked at him, and he was talking about eating things like mashed potatoes. I was like, 'What? Wait. No. You're still 20 pounds over. You should be eating like grade-A sashimi and some dry broccoli. Why are we talking about mashed potatoes? Really?'"

Santos earned his way into Bellator's season-five tournament final with impressive submission wins over Neil Grove and Josh Burns. He then faced Prindle in the finals of the tourney only to see the fight end in a no-contest after kicking his opponent in the groin. The controversial ending set up a rematch at this past week's Bellator 61 event. However, that fight was scratched when Prindle was stricken with "flu-like symptoms."

There were rumblings that the bout was actually delayed due to Santos' battle with weight, but Rebney insists that's simply not true.

"Thiago was battling weight issues last week," Rebney said. "But the call to delay the fight literally was made before we had any real substantial knowledge of what Thiago's weight was or wasn't. And Thiago was actually closer to being ready to getting on the scales and making weight last week than he was this week. The judgment call on my part was really made on Prindle just being sick. He was literally sitting in fighter interviews vomiting into a garbage can."

So the fight was pushed to this week's event, but Santos registered 276.8 pounds, leaving him ineligible for the heavyweight bout. Faced with a difficult decision, Rebney declared Prindle the tournament winner, earning him a shot at current heavyweight champion Cole Konrad.

"You just looked at the circumstances," Rebney said. "The first ended with a kick to the crotch. Prindle doesn't have the chance to complete the first fight because he got kicked in the groin. He shows for the next one and is vomiting, sick as can be, 36 hours before he's supposed to be in the cage. Prindle wanted to fight, but you look at him and say to yourself, 'This guy, he was not at fault the first time the fight got DQ'd. Then he shows up, and he's vomiting and is sick.' … I just made a judgment call.

"The good news is it wasn't really losing the main event, per se. We never anticipated having this fight on this show literally a week ago. We thought the fight was going to take place last week. This lightweight tournament is stacked, and we've got some crazy good fights on this card, so it wasn't as if we had been building up on this. It wasn't the equivalent of losing an Eddie Alvarez vs. Shinya Aoki fight or Ben Askren vs. Douglas Lima. It kind of got added last-minute."

Awarding a tournament win by default is obviously less than ideal, and many MMA pundits wondered if there should have been another option available. Rebney said that alternates are kept on hand in the opening and semifinal rounds of the promotion's tournaments, but he's thus far been opposed to slotting a substitute into a final-round matchup.

That said, he realizes it may be necessary to come with a new backup plan.

"Just like everything else with the organization, we'll reanalyze it, but it always seemed to be a little but counterintuitive to have an alternate fighting for the right to fight for the world title," Rebney said. "I've always felt comfortable saying, 'Look, if an alternate fights in the first round and wins and then someone either can't make weight or gets sick or gets injured, that alternate that won in the first round should get that semifinal slot.' But it's been a little bit of a disconnect to say that alternate who has won twice now could get the chance to fight for the tournament championship and $100,000. That's not to say that it shouldn't be reanalyzed. That's not to say that we shouldn't sit down as a team and chalkboard the whole thing out and figure out if there is a better alternative.

"Thankfully, this is the first time this has happened. We do 25 shows a year, minimum, and we're going to 25 shows a year every year, so it's probably going to come up again. I'll sure sit down with the team and figure out if there's a better structure and a more reasonable way to move it forward."

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Rebney said there is a potential upside for Bellator fans: a heavyweight championship sooner rather than later. The Bellator exec said champ Konrad is itching to fight, and he anticipates booking a Konrad-Prindle fight within the next few weeks.

"We told Cole to be ready," Rebney said. "He told us he's going to be ready. Literally, you could see that fight within weeks.

"It's obviously not an ideal situation, but the good news is that Prindle is 100 percent. Stylistically, it's going to be another old-school kind of matchup. One guy is going to try to knock one guy's head off, and another guy is going to try and shoot for the double-leg and put the other guy on his back. We'll see."

Meanwhile, Rebney vows Santos will be back. While obviously disappointed in the 25-year-old heavyweight, Rebney said he'll be there to support his fighter.

"You look at him, and it almost brings tears to your eyes," Rebney said. "You think, 'Man, this kid with all this promise – it's not like he's a pompous, overpaid athlete who's egocentric and just doesn't care.' He was working like a crazed dog. He was in the sauna for two days. He was miserable. He just doesn't know. He just doesn't have a real nutritionist to sit with him and say in Portuguese, 'This is what you have to do.'

"He's never worked with an American wrestling coach who says, 'OK, look. In the fourth week, you do this. In the third week, you do this. In the second week, you do this.' He's a big, strong kid with amazing natural talent, great jiu-jitsu skills and crazy knockout power who just doesn't have the right team around him. I don't mean to sound like Mother Teresa, but I think it's our job as a promotion who believes in this kid to not give up on him, not terminate his contract, but to try and help him – to try and get guys around him who can give him that expertise.

"We'll find a good nutritionist. We'll find some good people for him. We'll put them together. Then if he misses weight, totally different story. But for the time being, let's give him a shot. Let's give him another chance."

Bantamweight shakeup: Easton out, Hougland meets Jabouin and Menjivar fights Barao

An injury to Mike Easton (12-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has shuffled the bantamweight deck.

Now meeting Yves Jabouin (17-7 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC on FUEL TV 3 is Jeff Hougland (10-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC), whose originally scheduled opponent, Renan Barao (28-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC), is now set to meet Ivan Menjivar (24-8 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in a possible No. 1 contender bout at UFC 148.

Sources close to the event today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following a tweet from reporter Joe Ferraro, host of Sportsnet's "UFC Central."

Reached today for comment, Easton declined to confirm he was out of the fight but admitted to dealing with injuries in training. His reps were unavailable for comment.

"I really want this fight, but it's no good going into a fight really, really banged up," he said. "It makes for not a good night."

"UFC on FUEL TV 3: Korean Zombie vs. Poirer" takes place May 15 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Main-card fights air live on FUEL TV while preliminary-card fights stream on Facebook.

UFC 148 takes place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It's main card airs live on pay-per-view while preliminary-card fights air on FX.

Menjivar vs. Barao is welcome news for many fans puzzled at Barao's meeting with Hougland, a fighter with far less UFC experience.

As it stands, the Brazilian enjoys a three-fight win streak in the UFC and holds a record virtually unblemished since his professional debut in 2005. Barao most recently outpointed Scott Jorgensen at UFC 143, which built on another key win over Brad Pickett at UFC 138.

Menjivar perked up ears in his most recent performance with an impressive come-from-behind victory over John Albert at "UFC on FUEL TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger." After taking a flurry of punches early on, he turned the tables for a first-round submission victory, which brought his current win streak to three.

Hougland, meanwhile, hopes to build on a solid decision win over Donny Walker in his octagon debut at UFC 132. Unbeaten in his last nine outings, he has earned submissions in seven of his 10 wins.

After stumbling in his UFC debut, Jabouin has rebounded with consecutive wins against such fighters as Ian Loveland and Walel Watson.

great fights are awesome, but watching silva toy with griffen/okami never gets old. i honestly felt like bisping had that fight but it is what it is. i'd rather see sonnen vs silva 2 anyway. also got to remember Bisping wasnt suppose to be next in line. munoz got hurt and bisping stepped up. he was even saying in interviews before that fight that he felt he wasnt ready for a title shot yet.

'Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier' tickets on sale next week

With a heavyweight grand-prix finale between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier official for the card, Strikeforce returns to its longtime home at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., for the May 19 event.

Tickets are available to the general public on Friday, April 6, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT).

Pre-sale periods are set for UFC Fight Club members on Thursday, April 5, at 1 p.m. ET and "Strikeforce Insider" e-newsletter subscribers at 3 p.m. ET.

The heavyweight grand prix kicked off to great fanfare 13 months ago at East Rutherford, N.J.'s IZOD Center. Fedor Emelianenko took on Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the competition's opening round/quarterfinals and was upset in shocking fashion when a cageside doctor ruled him unable to continue after the second round. In the other quarterfinal bracket, Sergei Kharitonov knocked out Andrei Arlovski in the first round.

A few months later, the competition then moved on to Dallas, where a second quarterfinal-round event hosted Barnett vs. Brett Rogers and Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum in co-headlining bouts. Barnett took a little more than a round to submit Rogers, and in a heavily booed fight, Overeem outstruck and outpointed Werdum to advance to the semifinals.

During the final-four round in September at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Barnett easily submitted Kharitonov. Missing from the tournament, however, was Overeem, who was released by Strikeforce parent company Zuffa when he withdrew from the competition with a rib injury (that at the time was compounded by a toe injury). In his place went alternate Cormier, who shocked many by flooring Silva in the first round with a flurry of punches.

However, the finale had been on hold while Cormier recovered from a hand injury.

The latest "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier" lineup includes:
Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier (heavyweight grand-prix finale)
Champ Gilbert Melendez vs. TBA (for lightweight title)
Nate Marquardt vs. Tyron Woodley*

UFC 146 Heavyweights Undergo Random Drug Test

Six of MMA’s best heavyweights underwent random drug testing after yesterday’s UFC 146 press conference at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos and No. 1 contender Alistair Overeem were both tested on site, as were Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva. Tests were conducted by Quest Diagnostics agents, and the results should be available within one to two weeks. Sherdog.com confirmed the news with Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, on Wednesday. Ron Kruck of HDNet’s “Inside MMA” first reported the news via Twitter.

The test marks the first of two required random samples that Overeem must submit in accordance with his December meeting with the NSAC, which granted the former Strikeforce champion a conditional license to compete against Brock Lesnar at UFC 141.

Overeem had been asked to take a random test earlier that month but was unable to immediately comply due to his travel between the United States and the Netherlands. Several days after the request, Overeem submitted a sample in an approved facility in the United Kingdom that came back clean, allowing him to compete on Dec. 30. Overeem earned a technical knockout over Lesnar in the evening’s main event to earn his UFC title shot.

With Tuesday’s proceeding now behind him, “The Demolition Man” must submit to one more random drug test before his May 26 showdown with dos Santos, as per the terms of his UFC 141 conditional license.

Taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, UFC 146 features an all-heavyweight main draw and airs live on pay-per-view. Along with the dos Santos-Overeem headliner, the event will see former champions Mir and Velasquez collide in addition to showcasing “Bigfoot” Silva’s UFC debut against Nelson. Former UFC title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga also appears on the main card against Shane del Rosario, while onetime Pride Fighting Championships standout Mark Hunt faces lanky Dutchman Stefan Struve.
