Fedor In Talks With UFC Again...

After a three-fight losing streak in Strikeforce, Fedor Emelianenko is now back on the winning side of the field after he defeated Jeff Monson dominantly in Moscow, Russia yesterday via unanimous decision. Fedor had a "sprawl and brawl"-type gamplan and played the fight safe. Monson had to be carried out of the ring due to some vicious leg kicks thrown by Fedor, a weapon we rarely see him utilize.

There has been talk speculating that Fedor Emelianenko's next opponent is going to be Olympian Satoshi Ishii on New Years. However, a source from Emelianenko's camp has informed us that they are negotiating with the UFC once again.

The terms are much different now due to the fact that he lost three in a row and is no longer as valuable as he once was, and Fedor's management knows this. As of right now, nothing has been signed, but negotiations are going smoothly.

The source states that if Fedor Emelianenko is to sign with the UFC, his first fight will be against former Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez. It is unclear whether or not Fedor Emelianenko will be fighting Satoshi Ishii on New Years.

M-1 does understand that if they do sign with the UFC, there will be no co-promotion. The focus is more now on Fedor Emelianenko's career rather than M-1 itself.

He's gonna have a faded career like mirko cro cop and tarnish his legacy as a fighter who should've tooken full advantage of the hype he had around him during the last decade. Once a fan of fedor, and I respect his legacy of being the worlds feared fighter but when his mangement team tried that bullshit premadonna type boxing promoter picking bum fighters and wouldn't give ufc a chance during their expansion era, for that I moved on from being a fan of his....

I'm glad allister overeem took his career to his own hands and said enough is enough. At least he's still young and have 4 more yrs of great fights left in him....

I think Fedor could still take most of the guys there. Them wanting him to fight Cain kind of shows their intentions for signing him. Bring in another legend to help put the young guys over. Have him lose to Cain, then lose to someone who recently lost but can still make a title run, and if he's still around give him an overhyped guy to beat the shit out of and repeat the whole thing if necessary.

Fedor KOing Cain and armbarring JDS/Brock/Reem for the title would be the greatest thing to ever happen though.

A key welterweight matchup is in the works between Thiago Alves (19-8 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Martin Kampmann (18-5 MMA, 9-4 UFC).

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed with sources close to the fighters that at least one of the fighters has agreed matchup, which is expected to take place at an as-yet-unannounced March 3 event.

The matchup was first reported by MMAWeekly.com.

"It was the fight I asked for, and I know UFC fans will love it," Alves told Tatame."He has just defeated Rick Story, who had beat me before, so it's a good fight for me."

Alves looks to build on the strength of a UFC 138 submission win over the previously unbeaten Papy Abedi. The popular American Top Team product is just 2-3 in his past five outings, but that run includes losses to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, perennial contender Jon Fitch and recent up-and-comer Rick Story.

Meanwhile, Kampmann recently snapped a two-fight losing streak with a UFC 139 decision win over Story. The impressive win came on the heels of two controversial decision losses to Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields.

While Alves has committed to the contest, Kampmann, at least publicly, hasn't yet done the same.

"I haven't talked with UFC yet, and I don't have a date or opponent," Kampmann stated on his Twitter account. "Alves is a possibility, but so [are] a lot guys. I will let you know!"

and this is why i'm saying with a good game plan he could win. i'm not saying he will have one or even try to have one. just stating that he's old now and when you're over the hill you got to come up with a gameplan to beat the younger fighters like couture was doing. if this was prime fedor he probably wouldnt even have to train ahaha. but yeah everyone just stated cain will win so i decided to go the scenic route and explain how fedor could win that is all.

Ryan Bader vs. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson set for UFC 144 in Japan

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (32-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will get his wish.

UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta today revealed to ESPN.com that the promotion has granted the former champion his request for a fight in Japan, and Ryan Bader (13-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) will now oppose him at UFC 144.

UFC 144 is set for Feb. 26 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Broadcast plans for the event have yet to be announced.

Earlier this week, Jackson claimed he was unlikely to fight on the card and openly expressed his frustration at the UFC's decision.

"It don't look like I'm fighting in Japan, which I'm not happy about at all," Jackson wrote on his official Twitter account. "I think its a big mistake by the UFC."

Later that day, Jackson appeared a little more optimistic.

"Guys, I have the best managers in the business," Jackson stated. "This thing will work its way out."

Jackson, of course, has a long history of fighting in Japan. The former PRIDE superstar fought 18 times in Japan between 2001 and 2006. He'll return to Japan looking to rebound from a UFC 135 loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Meanwhile, Bader looks to build on the strength of a UFC 139 win over Jason Brilz. The much-needed result snapped a two-fight losing streak for the winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 8."

UFC 138's Chris Leben suspended one year following failed drug test (painkillers)

The UFC has suspended Chris Leben for one year due to a failed drug test.

The veteran middleweight tested positive for the prescription painkillers oxycodone and oxymorphone following his UFC 138 main-event loss to Mark Munuz earlier this month.

UFC officials, who oversaw regulation for the overseas event, today announced the suspension.

UFC 138 took place Nov. 5 at LG Arena in Birmingham, England. Munoz vs. Leben was part of a main card that aired via same-day delay on Spike TV. Munoz earned a second-round TKO victory when Leben's corner deemed him unable to continue for the third round.

This is Leben's second suspension following a failed drug test, and it's the second time the UFC was forced to hand down the punishment. Leben also tested positive for the banned steroid Stanozolol following a 2008 loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 89. Like UFC 139, UFC 89 took place in the U.K., where there is no official sanctioning/regulatory body. In such situations, the UFC brings in an outside company to conduct drug testing.

"I would like to make it known that I fully accept this suspension and apologize for embarrassing the UFC, my friends and family, and sport of mixed martial arts," Leben stated. "I'm learning that I'm my own worst enemy sometimes. I can't succeed in the octagon or in life behaving this way. I've got to make some real changes over the next year, and I'm going to focus on getting my life and career back on track. Again, I'm sorry to the UFC and fans that've supported me since my days on 'The Ultimate Fighter.'"

Despite two failed tests, UFC president Dana White made no mention of cutting the fighter from the UFC's roster.

"I like Chris, and I want him to do well, but based on his actions, he's been suspended for one year," White stated. "If he needs professional help, we are going to be there for him. We want to see him succeed not only in the octagon but in his personal life."

Leben (22-8 MMA, 12-7 UFC) first joined the UFC in 2005. He was on a stellar 4-1 run before the recent loss to Munoz (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC), who is expected to fight in a No. 1 contender's bout in his next outing.

Report: Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis to headline UFC on FOX 2
If it was good enough for UFC 133, it's good enough for FOX.

According to ESPN, UFC officials have booked Rashad Evans (16-1-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC) and Phil Davis (9-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) for a headlining slot in the promotion's sophomore effort on network television.

The two top light heavyweights, who were expected to meet at this past August's UFC 133 before Davis was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury, will now headline UFC on FOX 2, which takes place Jan. 28 in at Chicago's United Center.

Evans, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, went on to defeat Tito Ortiz at UFC 133 and was expected to face former teammate and current titleholder Jon Jones in December, but a lingering hand injury forced "Suga" to withdraw from the matchup. Jones now face Lyoto Machida in the main event of December's UFC 140.

Meanwhile, Davis brings a perfect career mark to the cage. The four-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler fought most recently in a March unanimous-decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and also counts wins over Tom Boetsch, Rodney Wallace, Alexander Gustafsson and Brian Stann on his resume

Brett Rogers sentenced to 60 days in jail for assault
Former Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a domestic-assault incident with his wife in June, according to a report today in the "St. Paul Pioneer Press."

Rogers in September pleaded guilty to a single count of felony third-degree assault. Two felony counts of domestic assault by strangulation and stalking were dismissed, as was a gross misdemeanor charge of endangering a child.

Rogers, a St. Paul, Minn., resident who in June was eliminated from the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix, proclaimed his innocence after he was jailed for allegedly strangling and punching his wife after a night of drinking.

In addition to jail time, Rogers was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to have no contact with this wife until he completes a domestic abuse program and receives permission from his probation officer. He is also forbidden from using alcohol and drugs.

The sentencing judge denied a request from Rogers' attorney to delay jail time until after a planned fight on Dec. 31. Because Rogers already served 26 days in jail, the judge said he only needs to serve approximately two more weeks to complete his sentence.

Earlier reports said Rogers expected to avoid jail time as part of a plea agreement to drop the two felony counts of domestic assault and misdemeanor charge of endangering a child.

Rogers (11-3) was immediately released from Strikeforce upon his arrest. He most recently lost a split decision to Bellator and UFC vet Eddie Sanchez at Titan Fighting Championships 20. He is 1-4 in his past five outings, though three of his losses have come against top-tier heavyweights Alistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett.

Would-be Mugger Foiled by Mixed Martial Artist

Chicago - A convicted felon chose the wrong victim when he tried to rob an ultimate fighting champion Friday night on the Southwest Side and ended up with two black eyes and a gunshot wound to the ankle.

Police say 24-year-old Anthony Miranda walked up to a car which was parked near 55th and Kenneth about 11:30 p.m. and asked the driver for a lighter.

When the driver said he didn’t have one, Miranda allegedly pulled a handgun, pointed it at the driver and demanded money. And even after getting some money, he ordered the driver out of the car, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

At some point, Miranda’s attention was diverted and the victim was able to grab control of the gun and the two wrestled.

During the fight, Miranda accidentally discharged his gun, shooting himself in the ankle, Mirabelli said.

The victim -- who told police he’s a martial arts expert and ultimate fighting champion -- was able to pin Miranda down until police arrived. Police arrived to find Miranda with a face full of lacerations and two black eyes. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, police said.

Miranda, a convicted felon, is charged with armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class X felony.

He was ordered held on $350,000 bond Sunday, according to the CooK County Sheriff’s office.

Records show he has several convictions, including at least one for a residential burglary.

UFC on FOX 2 co-headliners feature Evans-Davis, Sonnen-Munoz in title eliminators

The UFC's second network-televised event on FOX has its co-headliners.

UFC officials today announced that next month's UFC on FOX 2 event will feature light-heavyweight contenders Rashad Evans (16-1-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC) vs. Phil Davis (9-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC and middleweights Chael Sonnen (26-11-1 MMA, 5-4 UFC) vs. Mark Munoz (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC).

Evans vs. Davis will be contested as a five-round non-title fight, a UFC official confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Both fights determine No. 1 contenders.

The event takes place Jan. 28 at United Center in Chicago, and at least three fights are expected to air as part of the night's FOX-televised main card.

MMAjunkie.com previously reported the Evans vs. Davis matchup, though Sonnen denied the possibility of the long-rumored Munoz fight in recent weeks.

UFC on FOX 2 is the first official event that's part of the UFC's landmark seven-year deal with FOX. However, this past month, UFC on FOX 1 served as a sort of teaser show. Junior Dos Santos knocked out and claimed the heavyweight title from Cain Velasquez in the night's only televised bout, which set an MMA ratings record in the U.S. with an average audience of 5.7 million viewers and a peak of 8.8 million for the 64-second title fight.

UFC officials will kick off the promotional efforts for UFC on FOX 2 this coming Wednesday (1 p.m. CT local time) with a press conference at United Center. It's free and open to the public.

'The Ultimate Fighter 15' coaches revealed: Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber


UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Urijah Faber will serve as coaches on the "The Ultimate Fighter 15."

The UFC today announced the coaching assignments.

"TUF 15" (which officials have dubbed "The Ultimate Fighter: LIVE") is the first to air on FOX-owned FX and the first to air live fights. It debuts March 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour episode. Subsequent episodes air at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The show is slated for a 13-week run, and lightweight and welterweight fighters will be part of the show's tournament format.

"We're producing ground-breaking television with 'The Ultimate Fighter: Live,' and we can't wait to kick this season off with FX in March," UFC president Dana White stated. "It's going to be can't-miss TV. Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber are two incredible personalities who also happen to be two of the best fighters in the world. They genuinely dislike each other, and I expect this to make for the best season yet."

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported on Monday, an open tryout for "TUF 15" in Las Vegas drew more than 350 fighters.

Cruz and Faber will meet sometime in mid-2012 following the show's conclusion. It'll be their third meeting; Faber won the first at WEC 26 via submission to defend the WEC featherweight title, and Cruz recently avenged the defeat with a unanimous-decision victory at UFC 132 earlier this year to defend his UFC belt.

The fighters have made no secret of their disdain for each other.

"Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a gym rat and love learning and teaching mixed martial arts," stated the Alliance MMA-based Cruz. "This is a dream come true. To get a chance to coach 'TUF' and beat Faber again is all the motivation I need. This is going to be an insane season of 'The Ultimate Fighter.'"

Faber echoed those sentiments.

"I am looking forward to mentoring a bunch of hungry and talented fighters," stated the Team Alpha Male fighter. "The new cast needs to be ready to work hard and learn. Having Dominick coach on the opposite side couldn't be more perfect. I'm not too thrilled about being in each other's space for an extended period of time, as I am sure we are going to get on each other's nerves. But I can't wait to mentally beat him up as a coach and then literally beat him up in the cage and swipe that UFC strap."

"TUF 14" was the first season of the seven-year-old reality series to feature bantamweight and featherweight fighters. "TUF 15" is the first to feature bantamweight coaches.
