Ecko Unltd to make MMA apparel push?

The Ecko Unlimited apparel company is the latest major brand to get involved in MMA. They recently rolled out a line a fight shorts (seen sporadically on some UFC fighters on the last few events) and Five Ounces of Pain also hears Ecko Unltd may be launching a full line of gear specific to MMA.

If you’re a fighter (or just want to look like one) you can snag yourself a pair of the newest ECKO fight shorts HERE http://www.shopecko.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3088637&cp=2441354

This could be as big or bigger for MMA than the UFC/Budweiser adv deal - Ecko would by far become the biggest clothing wholesaler to specifically target mixed martial arts.

Before some of you start shouting, “what about TapouT?!?!” here’s a comparison:

Marc Ecko Enterprises does over $500 million in sales a year;
TapouT brought in over $25 million in 2007 (up from $6 mill in 2006).
That’s like a candle in the sun - that shit don’t even out. We’ll keep you updated

Exclusive: Chris Lytle 'UFC 86 & Josh Koscheck'

PDG: You’re going into a really big fight against Josh Koscheck – how do you feel about the opportunity and the fight in general?
Chris: I’m really fired up about the opportunity. I feel like my last several fights I have made a decision to just go all out and throw caution to the win – not worry about what is going to happen and just fight as hard as I can. Even in the loss [to Thiago Alves] it was a very close, competitive fight – we both landed lots of things, and [the UFC] was very happy with it. Something clicked in my head and I started fighting how the UFC wants people to fight, and it’s working out for everybody.

PDG: Yeah, it looks like it’s especially working out for you – you’re really laying into guys and fighting more aggressively on the ground.
Chris: Exactly. I feel like I’ve been training too long and working on too many things, so now I just go out there and use everything that I have. Sometimes you can over-think these things like “I have to do this, this, and this” – but I’m not going to do that anymore; I’m just going to go out there and fight.

PDG: Josh Koscheck recently developed a striking game that he appears to be hell-bent on using, and proving himself. Do you feel that that could be a downfall for him, or considering your striking ability he may go back to his roots?
Chris: To be honest I think at the beginning he will definitely try and test the waters on his feet, but in my opinion when push comes to shove and things become a little bit harder you tend to fall back to what you know best – in his case that is wrestling. I won’t be too surprised if after a few minutes he decides to try taking me to the ground. It is kind of hard with someone like him that has developed striking – I have to be prepared for that, I don’t want to get caught not giving him the respect he deserves there; but I’m definitely thinking he is going to try to take me down.

PDG: Are you able to take anything from your fight with Matt Hughes into this fight?
Chris: Quite a bit actually. I never had too much of an experience where someone was able to hold me down to that effect. Matt did a great job neutralizing my game. I was thinking if we were on the ground that long with no damage they would stand the fight back up. The referees obviously didn’t stand us back up. In the past I thought that if we were down on the mat without action for a certain period of time the referees would stand us back up – but I’m not counting on that anymore. It depends on which referee you get and how long they will let it go. I’m now going to work on different ways to get to my feet instead of neutralizing the other guy – because sometimes that works but sometimes they are like “nope, keep going.” You don’t know what kind of a referee you are going to get so you better do it yourself.

PDG: It’s definitely a crapshoot.
Chris: Yeah, exactly. Like I’m saying, 90% of the time in that position they stand you up a lot. Lucky me it was that percentage they didn’t stand me up. I wasn’t really expecting that, but it happens.

PDG: As far as the submission game goes, Hughes is definitely ahead of Koscheck there. You were able to threaten Hughes on the ground with some of your attacks – nothing paid off in the end but you did attack him with some close chokes; do you feel confident with that going into the fight with Josh?
Chris: I know Josh trains with good people and he is very well versed in ground tactics, but I think in all honesty that my ground game is underrated. If he takes me to the ground I have lots of different things I’m looking to put him in. My whole goal now is to be the type of fighter who can end the fight in any position, at any time. I don’t want to give the other guy any position where he’s comfortable – “I’m OK right here.” No, you’re not. That is what I want to do right now – always make the other guy nervous at all times, like they should be.

PDG: You’re in one of the most stacked divisions in the world; how do you think you stack up?
Chris: I’ve been saying that for a long time that the 170-pound division is slightly more difficult than the rest. Yeah I’m in a stacked division and its real rough, but I definitely feel that I am better than most people give me credit for. That is why I want to see how I do in this next fight – it is going to prove a lot to the fans, as well as myself. Josh is right up there ranked around third or so, he’s obviously one of the best guys in the weight class. If I want to consider myself up there I have to beat someone like him, which will be very tough – he’s an extremely gifted athlete and I know that, but those are the types of fights I want at this point in my career.

PDG: A lot of people put weight on your boxing experience, but you have excellent jiu-jitsu with most of your wins by submission......
Chris: Yeah. I noticed a long time ago they liked to talk a lot about my boxing so I think this leaves more room for my submissions. But I’ll be quiet, go ahead and talk about my boxing and I’ll just keep submitting people [laughs]. I definitely still love boxing, but I haven’t had a boxing match in a few years since I signed a UFC contract. At some point though, I’m sure I’d like to have a boxing match again.

PDG: How do you reflect on your boxing career?
Chris: I would definitely like to have a couple more fights in the boxing realm, but to be honest with you the UFC pays a lot better than boxing does. A lot of people think boxing has all the money, but that’s true for maybe 0.1% of the money in boxing – they get all the money. People don’t realize the large discrepancy. I just enjoy boxing matches and want to have one again at some point, but timing is everything and I just have to wait until the time is right.

PDG: I know your fight with Josh is a ways off, but do you have any sponsors lined up yet for it?
Chris: Not really. I’ve been with the guys from Tapout for a long time – they take care of me really well. But I haven’t thought about my sponsorship much right now.

PDG: Thanks a lot for your time Chris. Is there anything you would like to say to wrap things up?
Chris: Yeah, all I really want to say is I guarantee that night I’m coming to bring it and fight hard, and at the end of the night I want everyone to say “this is the best fight I’ve seen all year.” I’m going to do everything I can to make that possible. Tune in and watch this fight!

Thiago Silva fight to keep undefeatable

With an impressive résumé at MMA, Thiago Silva is already appointed as one of the bests at his category at the UFC. After a easy win against Houston Alexandre, Thiago will face the also undefeatable Antônio Samuray, with 11 victories at his card. But first, Thiago commented his last fight. “ Houston is very strong. I trained a lot and I made an specific tactical train because he has strong punches. I impose my game because he won all his fights at the stand up game and nobody knew how was his ground game. So I made the right thing and finish the fight”, analyzed Thiago.

Thiago didn’t want to face a Brazilian but he state that he is professional. “Unfortunately I am going to face a Brazilian, but I am here to work. I don’t choose my opponents. Ultimate wants me to face him so I will. I know that he is a striker but nothing scare me. I saw some of him fights at the internet and apparently he had never face a international level athlete. He is having his opportunity and I am here. Theoretically I came from a much hardest fight”, said Thiago.

UFC Referee Dan Miragliotta Recounts Run-In With Fan At UFC 83

Many outlets have erroneously reported that a crazed fan attacked 6-4, 296 pound UFC referee Dan Miragliotta who promptly put the fan in a rear naked choke before other authorities arrived to make the arrest.

Miragliotta recounted his side of the story about his run-in with the fan in an email to Mr. Sunshine:
The only thing, is that he wasn’t going after me he was charging either GSP or the ring. I just happened to be in between him and his targets. I was asked by the UFC to help with security when the 2 fighters entered the ring area. They where more worried about Matt then GSP. Next thing I know some wack job is jumping over the barriers and charging the ring. I didn’t want to hurt the guy so I was just going to put him to sleep and then help get him out of there before he hurt someone or himself.

Hughes Vs. Serra To Occur Sometime In '08?

Looks like we can expect a Matt Hughes - Matt Serra match up some time this year according to a blog post written by Hughes himself:
GSP had a good game plan to take Matt Serra down and wear him out. I found myself rooting for Serra at the end of the second round, I wanted him to make it to the third round. I thought if it would get to the third round GSP would decide to stand up with him and possibly knock him out. I just wanted Matt to get beat on for five rounds, not just two; but I knew the ref was about ready to stop it. The UFC said that if Serra loses I get him, but I don’t know when that will be. I’m going to guess six to eight months, so I’ve found myself watching my diet and exercising more.

MMANews.com Exclusive: Jake Shields Injury Update

MMANews.com had the chance to catch up with Jake Shields this week to discuss his back injury and how his training has been coming along after the injury forced him to drop out of his scheduled Elite XC Welterweight title fight last month against Drew Fickett.

With only a couple days left before the fight Shields had to pull out of what would be the second fight in the last year that was scheduled to be for the EXC strap. At this time he is getting ready to get back to training and get ready for that chance again

“I trained grappling for the first time last night and my back was only a little sore.” Shields stated.

With back injuries it is always better to be safe than sorry and taking it slow is usually the best plan. For Shields getting back into game shape is what matters most now.

“I plan on picking up training in the next week and hopefully it will be back to 100 percent in a week or two” he went on to tell us.

Fickett and Shields will most likely face off for the title in either June or July after Fickett successfully defeated Jae Suk Lim, who filled in for Shields after his scheduled opponent and Shields training partner Nick Diaz was pulled from that March 29th card.

Earlier this week Graciefighter.com reported that Shields had left the Fairtax gym. Shields did make mention of this when he spoke with MMANews.com and did say that he had some big plans in store, news that we will have for you when it is ready to be announced.

Stick with us.

Ninja explains absence from EliteXC

It would be the dream of any MMA athlete to participate in the May 21st Elite XC show, when an MMA event will be broadcast live on network television (CBS) in the United States to over 30 million people. Unfortunately for Murilo Ninja, the only Brazilian on the event’s historic card, the dream turned into a nightmare.

An injury to his foot during training caused the Southern Brazilian fighter to contact the organization to cancel his fight against American fighter Phil Baroni. Besides missing his chance of putting himself at the top of the list of challengers for the belt belonging to Robbie Lawler, Mauricio Shogun’s older brother will also be set back for this event being considered the biggest of all times in terms of market and sponsorship for fighters.

In a chat with GRACIEMAG.com, Ninja showed his experience as a fighter in making it clear he will not be put off, and he will be back shortly.

“I hurt my foot training, it’s very swollen and I can’t step properly. I’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow, I don’t think it’s too serious, but I should go 15 to 20 days without training. It would surely have been the most important fight of my life, as it will be seen by over 30 million people, a landmark for MMA. I was very sad, but all I can do is get back to training for my next fight when I can. Sooner or later I’ll face Baroni, as this will be a good fight. EliteXC treated me really well and gave me all the support it could, also saying they will try and fit me in the next event. Soon I’ll be fighting,” said the Universidade da Luta athlete.

Big John's money on Wanderlei

With UFC 83 over with, the American organization’s next event to include a cast of stars from the fighting world, has come into focus once and for all. UFC 84 will feature six Brazilians along with the lightweight title fight between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk.

One of these soldiers from the army of Brazilians is former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva, who will try to put himself at the top of the category rankings in a bout with the hard nosed Keth Jardine, who is coming off a win over precisely Wand’s last opponent, Chuck Liddell.

To comment on this big show to take place on the 24th of May in Las Vegas, there is no one better than MMA legend Big John McCarthy. The original UFC referee has been dedicating his commentator career to the organization TKO and HCF, and the website TheFightNetwork, carrying with him his credentials as referee from the very first UFC event. In a recent interview with the Canadian television program Off the Record, when asked about Wand versus Jardine, the American black belt in Jiu-Jitsu didn’t beat around the bush: “I will have to go with Wanderlei Silva. He’s been training the right way and I think he’ll take it.”

I'm glad Liddell is pulling out. I was pissed when they scheduled Evans to replace Shogun. It just didn't seem like a good situation for Liddell to make his way back to the top. NOW, if Forrest can find a way to beat rampage, then it's on for Iceman to get his belt back.

UFC Quick Quote: Brandon Vera wants Rampage and everyone else

It’s my one-year goal — to win both titles. I’ll fight anyone UFC wants me to fight. I’m not scared of anyone. I train ridiculously hard for all my fights. I drive myself to the point of exhaustion. In the past, I’ve collapsed in the gym. When I’m training for a fight, I work out thrice a day from six to eight weeks. Each day, I do 50 minutes of conditioning, including working six six-minute rounds, then 1 1/2 hours of repetition drills and finally, 1 1/2 hours of doing whatever my coaches want, like sparring or banging the bag or hitting the mitts…. After I get the heavyweight belt, I’m going after Rampage (light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson). I’ve already challenged Rampage. We’ve agreed that whoever wins will buy a car of his opponent’s choice but the plate will show the word ‘loser.’ I wouldn’t like to drive a Lamborghini with ‘loser’ on the plate so I don’t intend to lose.. I’ve trained with Rampage and he’s tough. But when the title’s on the line, it’s anything goes in the UFC.”

– Heavyweight contender Brandon Vera tells the Philippine Star that he plans to win the division title and then take on UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, claiming both title at the same time. “The Truth” will have to first take out Fabricio Werdum at UFC 85 at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.

Considering those are two of IFLs top fighters plus they got Ben Rothwell (although he left before Adrenaline.) Doesn't matter anyway considering IFL won't make it till the end of year imo.
I wouldn't call bart a top IFL lightweight any more considering he is on a 3 fight loosing streak. You can make a argument for Rory Markham even tho he got KOed in his last IFL fight. Sad tho that the IFL might not be around for long.
