I believe PacketNEWS lists only XDCC's on IRC. The best way that I see (this is how I do it) is to click on the #channel name. This will open up a new IRC session with whatever client you are using--it will automatically connect to the specified server, and join the channel. If you already have a client open, it will give you the option to either open another client, disconnect from the current--connecting to the new one, or join the channel on the current server, I like to open a new client. This is where you come in. Look at the information provided on the PacketNEWS website, it should list the NAME of the bot/user offering the file, then it will list a
packet number. Assuming that the bot/user is currently online (this isn't always true) you will type the following command in the channel.
/msg BOTNAME xdcc get #PACKETNUMBER
For example..
/msg Nitro xdcc get #5
This will send you the 5th file of however many files I am offering on my list. The bot will do one of two things. If there are open slots (there is always a limit to sends at one time) then it will attempt to send you the file, accept it, then the download begins. The file will end up in the download folder inside your IRC client directory. If there is, lets say, only a 3 send limit (the bot might not be that fast so it can only send 3 files at once) and all slots are being used, it will queue (wait list) the file. You must then wait in the channel until your turn comes, then it will proceed to send you the file.

Nevermind I figured it out, anyway tho my next question...all I can seem to find with packetnews.com is albums that just dropped...where can I find westcoast albums that dropped 2-4 years ago?
On IRC, the people that run the channels and bots are usually only about one thing, making their chan as big as possible. The most efficient way of doing this, is to offer the most up to date software and music. The amount of high-speed bots available are not as big as you might think, so it is hard to fill them with out of date files, that EVERYONE will like, because it might not be what everyone wants. People look to download NEW software/music, so thats what they offer. It sucks, I know, I too have trouble locating old software/music on IRC, but thats the way it is. The best thing to do (with PacketNEWS) is to check back another day, and maybe a new, or older bot (that was offline on your last search) might pop up. Remember, they don't list EVERY bot on IRC, just those that choose to have their XDCC's listed. Almost everything you can possibly want can be found on IRC, the hard part is, finding it.
