Like I said before, I investigated going into the Marines. Here are the pros:
- They pay 100% of your college tuition while you are in the service.
- They give you $60,000 for college when you get out.
- 100% full pay dental/health/vision for as long as you are at least a reservist.
- Free food, room and board.
- They beat responsibility into your thick skull.
Now the cons - and for me they GREATLY outweigh the pros.
- They pay you $250.00 a week for working a 12 hour day (sometimes 16 hours). They're paying you roughly $8.00 an hour to risk death and cause death.
- Don't listen to that shit about you are there to be a scientist, you can be this and that. YOU ARE THERE AS A TRAINED KILLER FIRST AND FOREMOST. Your #1 job is killing the enemy. Everything you do is related to causing someone's death, can you live with that?
- You will have no time for college working fucking 12 hour days. Who cares if it's 100% tuition reimbursement, when will you find the time to study? And you have to go to THEIR universities of choice.
- Boot camp really never ends. You will always be told when to piss, shit and sleep.
- If you get out and decide not to become a reservist, they take your health benefits away from you.
- Countless military veterans in shell shock from the horrors of war. If they want you in the fray, you will go in the fray. They will tell you that you can choose to serve whererever you want - but if you're stationed in Hawaii, they can and will ship you to fucking Afghanistan at the drop of a dime.

^^Yeah, but in many regards he is only talkin about the marines, and from what i've heard and seen the army also, but the airforce (chairforce) they have really good benifiets, but it is hard and slow when it comes to making rank, the navy on the other hand, as of right now, it is really up to you on how fast you make rank, like I said I've been in under three years and i'm already an e-5, which in all the other branches is unheard of...the navy is also more or less treated as a job, the only people that give a damn about rank and the respect that comes with it are the officers and the e-9's...beside that if your not an idiot, do your job and dont walk on the next mans toes to much you'll be a happy camper.
An ex-Marine told me once that the military is made up of people who could never think for themselves. People who are suggestable. The military aims to recruit these people because they are easily persuaded to do whatever is told to them.
